Ummm Wilder, sad as it may sound, has a far better resume getting this title shot than how Briggs got his last 2.

Briggs beat Magee, Pedro, alexander, and Calloway to get his shot at Vitali, yeah it was a voluntary but still......

He beat Chris F/N Koval to get his shot at Liakovich.

His only Blevel, contender wins are over 48 y/o Foreman, 45 y/o Mercer, and Sergei Liakovich.

Yet he's gotten several title shots thru the yrs simply crushing cans and staying active.

Not at all saying he should get another title shot, EVER, but there are still minor titles out there to win, undercards to be on, and young prospects to be tested.

Ive always liked Briggs, but he's never been much more than a Blevel HW, an entertaining one for certain, but not better than Wilder is ATM.

If Wilder's career is less successful than Briggs is, I'll eat my hat.:think

Briggs fought Lennox Lewis, George Foreman, Frans Botha and Vitali Klitschko he beat Segei Liakhovic for the Heavyweight title nearly 10 years earlier than Wilder. Shannon Briggs was way better than Wilder is atm.

Whenever Shannon makes one of those comebacks and vows that he "is taking this serious now" he ends up fighting bunch of low level club fighters who fall over after the first proper punch landed.

Then he goes on his big tirade about everyone ducking him, nothing new here.

You don't think Wilder would beat 48 yo Foreman or 45 yo Mercer?

He laid Liakovich down. Briggs went toe to toe with him.

Yeah, Liakovich was fresher then, but punch resistance was very similar....9see Helenius and Jennings fights)....yet Wilder put him into a seizure.:think

Briggs is facing a Mexican cabdriver this weekend. 2-3 more warm ups against bums before stepping in with a ranked fighter? I think he'll be getting lots of calls, as he's a pretty good name to pad a record with.

Don't be offended, but I don't think Wilder would be able to go 12 rounds with Vitali Klitschko.

Yeah Wilder destroyed Liakhovich, but it was nearly 10 years after Briggs had banged him out the ring and took his title. Liakhovich was done in by then and it was Wilders best win on paper.

You said Briggs was never better than Wilder is atm, but i disagree. Until Wilder wins a version of the world title and starts fighting top ten guys including the best in the division then you can start to make a case for him being as good as Briggs, but until then no way :nono

    OK, maybe I misspoke....

What I was aiming at was that this is Wilder's first title bid, and he's beaten better guys that Briggs beat to get his 2nd and 3rd title bid.

Do I think Wilder is better than Briggs.....idk, too early to tell, but his LOC is certainly better than Calloway, Alexander and Pedro and also better than Zolyoni, Ryan and Koval.

I seriously believe that Wilder could beat McCall, which is the equilivalent of a 45 yo Mercer, and I think he'd handle Briggs himself which is as good as a 48 yo Foreman.:think

Who had Briggs beaten in the 5 years previous to getting his shot against Vitali?

    Liakovich.

That's it. PERIOD. He got his shot because he was an American, former Champion, still quite servicable, and he pleaded for the fight.

Vitali was happy to oblige him with his typical "Welcome to my house" biitch.:lol::lol:
