I would vote no, but the boxing hall of fame is very liberal, and heavyweights have an easier time making it. Briggs best wins are over Foreman, Liakhovich, and Mercer. Not great, but he's been very active with longevity and has over 50 knockouts.
LOLLLLL Lyle fought a much more dangerous version of Foreman than did Briggs and almost ko'd him. Briggs fought a near second retirement Foreman who was slow as molasses and still Briggs took few chances. It was still a razor close fight. The Foreman that Lyle faced would have beaten the snot out of the defensively week, questionable (medicore) chinned Briggs. Prime for prime Lyle was better than Briggs. He also fought in a much better era and didn't carefully select his opposition. Briggs is vastly overrated based on his "win" over a ready to retire Foreman. The fact than many still viewed Foreman as the "Linear" Champ, even though that itself is open for debate, added to the hype. Regardless, Foreman at the time Briggs beat him was nowhere near the best HW in the World.
Thats arguable bc Foreman in the 70's had poor stamina and was more prone to getting hit then .Briggs also injured his hand , when Briggs fought Lewis ,Foreman had stated how much better he looked than when he fought him. Briggs is not overatted because he wasnt highly rated to begin with . However hes better than Lyle was ,hes faster ,bigger and has a much better boxing background ,Lyle learner to box in prison . Put 1991 Foreman vs Lyle and Lyle isnt knocking him down.
He rips off professional wrestling style promo, but so did Ali. It's a running joke that somehow gets his point across. But in real life, he's done some positive stuff like charity work for asthma and helping put on a boxing event last year where most living former heavyweight champions were in attendance. It's not bad considering he started as some asthmatic homeless kid in Brooklyn. Out of the three heavyweight champions to come out of BK in the last thirty years, he's the one without any rap sheet. fyi he also used to post on the general forum as a "friend" of Briggs. I think he forgot about that after Twitter and Instagram got popular.
Well, if you agree that "Briggs wasn't highly rated to begin with", I think you have answered the question about whether he deserves induction into the HOF.
Being rated has little to do with being in hof really because its time put in as well . Im pretty sure he beats many pre 80' guys that are in the hof , some for other reasons ,maybe a record ? If Briggs should win a title hes in regardless imop .
My knee-jerk response is, "Yeah, he's famous. He'll probably get in." Does he deserve to be included with the greats in a hall of boxing achievement? Definitely not.
i just feel pity for Briggs.Old man desparate to win the world title harrassing and screaming at other fighters to try and achieve it.The opponent he beat in his first word title challenge was unheard of and Lucas Brown 15 years on isn`t exactly stiff opposition. His record run of first round ko's were cab drivers or similar lets be honest. He was never that good so him being hof? lol.Still i hope he beats racist clown brown for the WBA title.
