Really need to get a GIF of the knock down starting from 3:33 on this video... classic [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZOfd-PZYWc[/ame]
Like it or not, Byrd and Ruiz were better than Tua, Botha, Rahman, Grant, and really at the time...Vitali. They were the most successful fighters below Lewis from 99-04. He should have faced them. Byrd in particular really deserved his shot after being led along by Lewis for well over a year. Lewis got special permission to face Tyson first with a Nov. deadline to make a Byrd fight happen. After Tyson, he made Byrd wait, and dumped the belt at the deadline. In an ESPN interivew, Lewis even admited he was wrong about Byrd after the Byrd/Holyfield fight and said he would finally make the fight happen. Lewis/Johnson was than announced.....with Lewis and Steward insistig Johnson was the best out there. Lewis Nutters will of course insist Byrd was boring and there was no demand..yet you could find countless articles here in the states championing Byrd's cause and much deserved title shot. The man earned his shot three times over. Also ironic given their stance on Lewis/Bowe bull****. The other fighters mentioned, he just didn't get the oppurtunity to face, or they "ducked" him. Roy Jones fight was on the table until Vitali threw a wrench into it.
Yup. Byrd deserved his fight. Emaneul even swapped away that fight. Style matchups. Even if you win, someone like Byrd can make you look silly at times. You would probably have matching Gifs with Lewis missing Byrd like Vitali did. Roy would have never fought Lewis. Overall, Lewis had some bad timing. Some possibly being his choice and the rest not so much.
Now this **** is too much. Byrd got badly ****ed up and knocked out by Ibeabuchi in March '99. He then got heavily beaten 6 fights later by Voidimir in October 2000. Lewis Fought Tua one month after Byrd Lost to Voidimir. He then got KO'd by Rahman 6 months later and had to rematch him. Are you saying that only 6 months after losing to Voidimir Byrd deserved a title shot any more than Rahman? After Rahman Lewis fought Tyson for a massive payday. Are you saying Lewis should instead have faught Byrd for **** all? Lewis then signed to fight Johnson and this is the only time you could argue Byrd deserved anything. However, Lewis was looking to rematch Tyson and this was more of a stay busy fight with a guy who'd only lost once by bull**** DQ. Byrd had still lost badly to two guys he hadn't rematched and only had one decent win against holyfield or maybe Tua. And you wanna talk about Ruiz?!?!? In the time period you stated, Ruiz lost 2 fights and drew 1. On top of that, he was the most boring mother****er on the planet. You my friend, are a ****ing ******.
Facts: -Byrd won a tournament and beat Tua to become the #1 contender to Lewis IBF crown. Nuff said, he earned his shot. -Nice try, nutter. Lewis/Byrd was set to happen after the Tyson fight. Lewis instead trashed the title that Sept and accepted a payoff. No different from Bowe or Tyson when Lewis was their mandatory. A ****ing ****** with facts and a mouth not bulging with Lewis' balls. You hyporcite. I won't respond anymore unless you get your facts straight and do some reading on the games Lewis was playing between 01-03. Byrd was wronged. A note to all nutters on the subject. Quit using the Tyson fight as an excuse for Lewis/Byrd not happening. Lewis was granted special permission to face Tyson first as long as he defended against Byrd within a reasonable amount of time at a later date.
I wondered the same. Briggs picks Lewis a part and then the OP makes a completely different title...:think
HAHAHAHAHA... good one dumb ****. According to you, Byrd was the best man below Lewis from 99-04, even though he was utterly demolished by Ibeabuchi and spanked hard by Voidimir. His only credible wins for years were against post-Ruiz Holyfield and a guy Lewis exposed just 2 fights earlier. Lewis didn't want to fight him cos he wanted to make actual money fighting Tyson again. I clearly told you before, he took the Johnson fight as a stay busy while he tried to get another chance to beat old Tyson. He then won a war with Vitali by TKO and decided to retire. How the **** does a dumb piece of **** like you then start mouthing off about Byrd like anybody gives a ****. Byrd is a non-entity and for most of the time period you quoted, nobody gave a **** about him. He was a LHW runner and spoiler with no power. Only Klit nuthuggers desperately try and build him up cos he beat Voidtali and is one of Voidimir's best wins.
Just over a year after Holyfield bet Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis beat and shut out Evander Holyfield but as robbed. Holyfield was not a shell, he was in good form and was coming off his best wins in his entire career in terms of greatness. The list of Fighters Lennox Lewis did fight was better than the ones he did'nt. You mention fighters who where half dead in the 90s. Lennox Lewis went to 2 Olympics during the 80s........1984 Bronze, and 1988 Gold. You're posts are really pissing me off.
Holyfield was seen as past his prime going in against Tyson (who was also past it). If you watch the first fight between the two after viewing each of their earlier fights, you'll see why both Tyson and Holyfield were past their best. Overall, I like Lennox. Great Champion. But he did fight a past prime Holyfield and Shot Tyson. Not his fault. Overall, he had a good career anyway.
-Clearly who the most successful fighter was below Lewis during his reign is a matter of opinion. Byrd and Ruiz had their short comings but I don't think you'll find a better overall resume from any active fighter during this period. -So in your opinion Lewis trashed his title and ducked Byrd for a completely unnecessary Tyson rematch pipedream? Well, I fail to see how tihs reasoning contradicts my conclusion that Byrd was a deserving contender who was wronged. -Your taking this to heart, want to fight about it? :bbb
I just enjoy calling out utter morons on their bull****. Byrd was a horrible fighter that nobody wanted to watch. Lennox was an ageing great who'd cemented his legacy and wanted to make as much money as he could before he retired. Why would he ever want to fight a guy who wouldn't help his legacy and nobody wanted to watch? Clearly you can't understand that because you are a ****ing ****** with an agenda, but I forgive you.
" Back when Larry Holmes was reigning as heavyweight champion for 7 1/2 years because the guts of Larry Holmes plus the opposition was about the same" :rofl
Nope. He is saying that Lennox was a fairly basic fighter, though great at what he did do. That makes him very good, not great. I tend to agree.
"No no, it is I who forgive you for being a ****ing ****** with an agenda." This content is protected
