I'm a huge, if not the biggest fan of Shannon Briggs and i swear he is blackballed by the boxing media and community. Even as a fan i know he's done some stuff to get there (losing key fights, inactivity in and out of the ring, lack of preparation) but really he is not the first nor the only fighter out there to do these things so why the constant flak against him? he is a really talented and gifted fighter who has overcome many things and accomplished many things most people can only begin to dream of doing, he just lost his belt a month ago and he is not even ranked anymore, he should still be in the top 10 of at least the wbo and he was booted right out, he fought poorly against ibragimov but i think his asthmatic condition is more of a problem than he is letting on

If his asthma was that much of a problem he would not be cleared to fight. Demarcus Corley has asthma, you never hear him use it as a crutch.

Well Briggs needs to throw more than 10 punches a round to start with. His performance against Sultan was an embarrassment.

Briggs is a c level fighter he is not championship material. The guy knocked out a bunch cab drivers and got his title shot. He got real lucky when he won. And then sultan showed that a average boxer would have know problems with him. I mean can you imagine if he had of fought wlad when everyone wanted to see that fight. It would have been a massacre. He is just too easy to hit. He could be a solid gatekeeper I guess now.His only thing he has go going for him is that if he happens to hit you with his right hand then he may KO you but he is a very inaccurate puncher and very slow.

He was basically a 4 round fighter when he was at the peak of his game. If he didnt KO his opponent in the first 4 rounds, he either lost by KO or tried to turn into a boxer and run. I never liked Briggs as a fighter and once he put on all that weight he looked even worse.

Briggs is God-awful. He has an incredible record but it's full of nobodies and has-beens. He talks a good game and comes into fights unprepared to engage and continuously embarrasses himself. I harbor a special disregard for the man because he does this while representing New York (my hometown). He's got "asthma." If he has such a bad case of asthma then he shouldn't be in the ring, period. I sincerely hope he's made enough money to ensure that we have, indeed, seen the last of Shannon Briggs in the squared circle.

I don't want to extend the verbal abuse on Briggs, so I will just a little. The only thing he currently possesses is his big mouth and a sorry excuse - asthma(when I was in the military, we had guys that were epileptic). I think it would be a huge favor to the boxing fans for Briggs to retire and take James Toney along with him.

I think Briggs is a very talented fighter who if came in the 250's would be a real threat too Wladimir but Shannon is a dumb ass and bulks up too much. If the guy would run instead of hitting the weight room he could really have chance with to be the top dog among the big men:nono

I'm surprised he was able to get as far as he did on his come back, he accomplished his goal (won a title) in the luckiest fight I've seen since Chavez/Taylor, so he got two big paydays instead of just one, he'll fight some more bums, get another shot, blow that too and then retire finally with his wits and some money, then he'll probably look to acting and commentating, like him or not he's done pretty well for himself being a full-time fringe contender.

dude after the fight he blamed the entire loss on his asthma!!! how is that playing it down?!? also, in all the pre fight interviews and stuff he claimed he was perfectly healthy, and i assume he had a medical examination that declared that much like the first time when he dodged fighting sultan cuz of having pneumonia or whatever the ****. he could be good but he is poorly conditioned and refuses to throw. and sultan schooled him.

That really talented and gifted fighter also lost to Sedrick Fields who surely deserves the status of an all time great.
