Can his punching power be placed in the same conversation as men like Foreman, Shavers, Liston, Tyson and Lewis ?

Tyson, yes, since Briggs had the handspeed, too. Lacked the other stuff, tho.

Not sure can say Foreman, Shavers or any of those but I do think he has a fair bit of power in his gloves.
Can't recall much the Lewis fight now but didn't he shake Lennox up a bit?

Yes and that was actually a good fight. I hadn’t seen it in years and watched a highlight reel of it a few nights ago. Great fight for the brief period it lasted actually.

Can recall it being a bit hectic and Briggs crashing down a few times. That was Lennox on his way to hitting his peak I suppose.
And for the lineal belt too I've just remembered.

There were some big shots thrown and landed in that fight from both men

If you watch a ton of his early fights he can be seen teeing off 30 punches in a row with little effect, Which is why he got his first loss.

He had good power but not Foreman, Tyson, Lewis power.

According to Lewis, Briggs hit him the hardest. I would take that with a grain of salt though as he is selective about opponents who gave him a hard time. To be fair, Briggs did score an unofficial knockdown (ropes held Lewis up).

Briggs could crack. His sheer number of 1st round KOs is impressive, but his competition was mostly horrible and he got caught juicing. He hit far above average, but not quite elite tier. Maybe 8/10 when he really lets his hands go with weight in his shots. His power in body punching is remarkable too, something most modern sluggers neglect.

I think you could make that argument. Briggs was a very big and jacked dude and he threw with intent. His problem came if the other guy managed to survive the first few rounds because he often blew his wad early.

No. Just no. I would go far as say he has good power. I rate somewhere 7.5

No. If it was he would have produced KOs on the level of this guys.

Shavers was by no means a complete fighter but his power still carried him past Norton and Young...etc. And he still shook some of the superior boxers he failed to stop like Lyle, Holmes, and Ali with single shots.

Briggs couldn't even dent Botha or McCline. His biggest stoppages are an injured Liakhovik and a washed up Mercer. His next down is Rob Callaway. I see no evidence of devastating power, his tomato can blow outs are laughable flurries.

He did, Fergy. I seem to recall Lennox actually briefly turning is back and running away at one point to get respite. I seem to recall him doing it with Butler too. I think Lennox squared it with himself that, yes, it was illegal but he wouldn't get disqualified so used the tactic occasionally to wriggle out of a tight spot. Fair play. It wasn't done with any intention to quit, rather to buy time so he could come back and try and win the fight.

To be fair, Lennox recovered well and turned in an outstanding showing. After the blip when he ran he got focused and just allowed Shannon to hit him while he, himself, put some great shots together with both hands.

An underrated pier 6 brawl, this one. Proved Lennox had a good chin and good power in either hand.
