The two most overrated American heavyweights of the last 25 years. Who cares.
I would actually lean Wilder

 

Briggs was strong and I don't think it takes much to stop Wilder at this point.

 

You look at Briggs late 90's / 00s record and it's good but not too outstanding. A 2000 decision loss to Sedreck Fields for example. That said he did give Lewis two very hard rounds which I'm not sure Wilder would cope with. Prime Briggs is certainly a notch above anybody on Wilder's resume.

 

Briggs at his best beats any Wilder I've seen so far.

 

Briggs in his prime would knock Wilder out cold!

 

Briggs resume is awful. He lost to Foreman despite what the judges said and Botha. He has a last second win over liakovich. He did better than expected vs Lewis. That's the highlight of his career as far as I' m concerned.
Anyway he and Wilder are both vastly overrated and both have some inexplicable fan base that sticks by them

 

See Briggs against Darroll Wilson. Stop there.

 

Wilders handlers would have never put him in with a dangerous journeyman like Wilson during the developmental phase of his career. He was almost KTFO by Sconiers, Wilson would have finished the job. So what's your point?

 

The best win on Brigg's resume came against Liakhovich, who lasted about 90 seconds with Wilder.

And if Briggs didn't score that KO in the final seconds, Liakhovich keeps the belt.

Briggs sucked. His whole career is based on a bad decision over 50-year-old George Foreman ... a decision that was considered so bad at the time it was investigated by government officials who suspected a fix was in.

 

I don't rate Briggs highly.. Don't get me wrong, but Wilder is the kind of guy he'd have a great chance at beating due to his technical, defensive as well as physical frailties. Of course Wilder jabbing and moving his way to a decision over a lethargic Briggs is possible, I just to think at some point he gets caught and stopped.

Wilson was dangerous.. He also nearly KO'd Izon a solid fringe contender who would have been just as good if not better than any of Wilders defenses. Great 90s HW barn burner btw.

 

Because Wilder is always getting stopped? Christ.

Again, the BEST opponent Briggs ever stopped was Liakhovich as Briggs was having a heart attack trying to catch a guy who was standing flat-footed in of him.

Wilder stops Briggs faster than Wilson did.

 

Darroll Wilson was a fringe guy. And he stopped Briggs in three. Enough said.

Whether Wilson or Izon or any of them were as good as Wilder's challengers doesn't matter, because none of Wilder's challengers stopped Deontay in three rounds.
