Good to know there will be a real lineal champion there on the night. Something for the combatants to one day aspire to being.
Last fought in May 2016 Is retired at this point and being paid now as a promotional clown Briggs- yawn.
I don't want to see a single person suggesting that Briggs could be a credible or even "interesting" opponent for the winner, since everyone bashed Carlos Takam in my thread on him maybe wanting a rematch with Joshua or Povetkin as if that very idea was ludicrous.
Credible, no. But he might be an interesting tune-up. Briggs is entertaining. In general, I'm opposed to guys "talking their way" into a fight like David Haye did, but there is something about Briggs that is endearing.
He really needs to get himself into the WBC top 15 somehow, so he can be a late replacement on short notice.
Hearn: "Shannon, just fight Whyte first. If you beat him, I'll let you fight Joshua. Big stadium fight. Mexican style."
I think a 2018 Carlos Takam, even though he isn't a big puncher, is a lot more dangerous and interesting than a 2018 Shannon Briggs. Hell, I'm not sure prime Briggs was a better fighter. Just a one trick pony with some okay power, low hand speed and terrible stamina (plus asthma), even when he was young.
