Max Baer in his losing fight against the Cinderella man.. But Braddock replaced by Shannon Briggs of the Foreman ft? Who emerges the heavyweight champ??
Briggs was tailor made for Baer. Baer struggled with crafty fighters that were hard to land on, but Briggs would be directly in front of Baer and Briggs was a nice big target.
This would have been very entertaining. Max would have had a lot of fun in this fight, and I would have had fun watching it. The fun would have been cut short by today's rules, as the referee would move in to save Shannon in the early rounds.
PLEASE! Nobody start a thread about Baer vs. Fury, UNLESS you're willing to spend the money necessary to GREATLY reinforce the ring. I do NOT want to see the pair of them under the ring, with Baer on top of Fury under there. God bless the officials who would have to sort out a winner from that!
Briggs had a good amateur career, as a pro he had not done much prior to Foreman and he only had two notable wins (Lyacovich (sp?), Mercer) in his career, almost any well trained fighter should be able to beat Max Baer. It would be like fighting a guy who walked off the street and came into the gym. Briggs is bigger, stronger, faster, more skilled, he wouldn't break a sweat.
As bad as Baer was on this night, Braddock was cagey and fought a smart fight. Briggs idea of boxing smart is to walk around with his hands at his hip line, blocking punches with his face, and waiting for the right moment, conserving that precious stamina... Could Briggs even see round 15 without collapsing?
The question about this fight I have is how many overhand rights does Max land on Briggs before he collapses.
