https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/784083 That's who will be fighting Shannon Courtenay for the WBA Bantamweight belt. Mitchell, 36 years old, 6-0-2 has 5 wins, two against debutants, 3 against fighters without a win and a combined record of 0-8 and a win against Noemi Bosques, who was 12-15 at the time of the fight. It's great to see Eddie Hearn really pushing the female fighters and getting Courtenay the biggest tests. Jamie Mitchell is currently rated the 4th best American Female Bantam, not the best, the second best or the third best, fourth best, World Title Shot. Women's Boxing, don't question it, just go with it.
Unfortunately she's not Jack Ryder, that would be a decent scrap though, Shannon Courtenay vs Jack Ryder in an East End greasy spoon, winner gets double on everything for their fry up, 20 Lambert & Butler thrown in for a KO. Super bantamweight 32- year old Jamie “The Miracle” Mitchell, as of 2017, who now presently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, came from the amateurs with 40 fights under her belt, and as an amateur she was ranked with USA as #1 in the nation in 2016. She was also ranked in 2012 #2 with USA Boxing nationwide The Miracle, indeed.
I tell you what though, she's got Courtenay beat on the backstory, this is a Matchroom wet dream... Jamie’s entire life has been centered around a single word: perseverance. Growing and learning in order to withstand adversity in her life has been instilled since the beginning of her existence. At just ten days old, she was abandoned by her mother due to her crippling cocaine addiction. There was no effort made to stay in contact with Jamie, and there is no known information about her father. https://prevailathletics.com/ for more
"Jamie’s prizefighting name is “The Miracle”, for having survived hardship in childhood and prevailing over misfortune." "Jamie welcomes you to share in her pugilistic pursuit and explore your journey by becoming a miracle and prevailing in your own human and fitness quest: Jamie invites you to discover what your unique ‘miracle’ will be to the benefit of you and yours." Fair play to her, but who writes this corny stuff?
Bad choice of opponent - her two draws have come against the only opponents that have more or less 50% records. I understand the talent pool in women’s boxing is a lot shallower than men’s but surely to fight for a title you have to beat someone with at least some motivation?
Need to get rid of them all. Stick them in the men's division seen as it's 'not women's boxing it's just boxing'.
Might as well be, he'd have as much credibility as the challenger & let's not even get started on the "champion"
I've only just looked, the top 12 WBA rankings, Mitchell isn't in them, am I missing something? Mitchell has done more than Bridges, although that's not hard, but is nowhere to be seen in the top 12. Honestly, I want to like women's boxing but this is just ridiculous, it's like getting a promotion at work just for turning up most of the time, actually I've seen quite a few promotions at work that have gone down the Bridges route!
Would love to see shannon fight Lisa Whiteside. Iirc Lisa is with SJam so it could be made, although I'm not sure if she's now with Frank which would make the match up "Not possible" Still a good fight and one which I think Lisa wins
"She's Tough" "She's got a great back story" "She's got nothing to lose" "She was a top amateur" "She's experienced" "She's a big puncher". We will hear all of these from Hearn and co, for what will be a terrible fight where Mitchell is overmatched.
Done nothing as a pro that Mitchell but is apparently a good fighter and did well as an amateur. The one Courtenay really needs to avoid is Melissa Oddessa Parker. Another top amateur in the states and looks the goods. I'd pick her to stop Courtenay if they fought anytime soon.
