Kudos fellow Trinidad/Norris fan and yes I agree he was very sharp and at one time was around the p4p #10 list. He accomplished quite a bit during his run and POSSIBLY is an ATG @ 154. I could be crazy for sayin this but correct me if I'm wrong. H2H he was tough for pretty much any opponent at his best.
Alex Garcia good shout i used to train with him before he turned pro:good He was a pretty decent heavyweight who could punch when he was coming up, and all of sudden he turned into slow one dimensional fragile chinned heavy. I think once he made a name forhimself he just started partying and lost discipline trying to party hard and make up all those years he did in prison. I used to see him cruising the boulevard partying back when he should have been sleeping and training.
Curry was actually still a very good fighter after the Honeyghan loss and fought well up until he was ko'd by McCallum. That was the loss that ruined him.
Both losses ruined him. If anything, both were his fault in a way. Against Honeyghan I don't think he belonged in the weight class he was fighting in at the time. Against Mccallum, he was backing up with his hands down and paid for it eventually. I agree that Mccallum ruined him worse as he never recovered from that but Honeyghan/Curry was a bigger upset at the time.
What im saying is that his ability just went into decline and soon after his chin was exposed. What you said is partly true, your right as far as if yourchin is glass you cant turn into a good chin, even with hard training. However if you dont train and your drinking and abusing your body your chances of getting kod are very high. After a while Garcia was getting kod or losing to guys he never would have lost too when he was training hard and taking it serious, early he used those type of guys as steppingstones.
his nose dive started mid-fight when he was knocked down in the 7th by tito. reid had tito down in the 3rd and it was downhill after that.
I know what you are saying, but I think he was just a protected fighter who was just a trialhorse at best, until somebody hit his cheen. Lol. Had he stayed focused and in-shape, he could have recovered a bit quicker from a hard shot and not pack it in. but once the cheen is exposed, it's pretty much over for most fighters not named Wlad or Lewis.
He basically did not come to fight with Lloyd and gave up. He was actually doing well against Mike M. before the ko.
Probably true but he did catch on pretty quick after he was released from prison at 24 within 1 year he was already a National Golden gloves champ and fight Teofilo Stevenson in international competitions, without no prior boxing experience. He obviously had natural talent but after a good early start just went into decline when he still could have been improving. In his prime he was much better than a Trialhorse, he managed a top 10 ranking and even if it wasnt deserved . Ablility wise he was still atleast a fringe contender.
How about Johnny Bumphus? He went from seemingly unbeatable prospect to looking ten years older than he was and staggering through the ring introductions in what seemed like no time at all.
