Shaun Potgieter vs. Christopher Andrew Thompson & Almighty Moyo vs. Bonke Duku RBR

Just what I feared...eight full rounds of this dreck.

It hasn't been as bad as the first couple...but it's also never gotten consistently good to watch.

The crowd was so hot after Moyo-Duku, too. What a waste.

Yikes..have they kept the same national anthem since apartheid?

This sounds distinctly European. Like, almost cartoonishly so.

 

Round 1

Potgieter is feint-stepping in, keeping his left glove holstered at his waist. Thompson ducking in with right jabs and straight lefts on the body. Potgieter steps in and forces a hooking exchange, and they clinch. Potgieter drives a right hand in and Thompson again ties up. Ref quick to break them apart. Potgieter jabs into the guard and meets Thompson bending forward with an uppercut. Potgieter flurries as Thompson drags him by the arms backing into a corner. Straight left on the body from Thompson. Underhanded volley from Potgieter. Lots of rough and dirty wrestling, forearms shoved in each other's faces. Triple looping right by Potgieter has Thompson holding.

Cameraman doing a terrible job. At one point swung up for a shot of the ceiling, then showing the crowd. STAY ON THE FIGHTERS PLEASE

 

Round 2

Potgieter has surprisingly quick hands for such a fat guy. Throwing in threes or fours, landing well when he goes straight down the pipe, missing more when he hooks, and each attack usually punctuated by Thompson diving in and holding. Thompson landing more fouls than punches, maybe a few southpaw jabs on the body prior to clinching.

Thompson dialed in his southpaw 1-2 and won R3 (despite being rocked in the middle of it by an uppercut). It's now Potgieter that's holding on until the bell.

Round 4

Potgieter is grinding inside, pushing with his forearms and shoulders into Thompson to pry loose of a clinch and create range to punch. Big looping rights and uppercuts scoring in push-away bursts by Potgieter. Thompson is rowing out the right jab and ducking in with big line drive left hands in the face before grabbing & grappling.

Finally some company.

 

Round 5

Thompson jabbing into the mitts and then stuffing a double left hand up into Potgieter's face. They're locking arms and shoving to and fro in the middle of the ring, test of strength. Potgieter hit with a low blow. He doesn't take much recovery time, saying he's ready as soon as the ref has gotten done sending Thompson into a neutral corner. Ref not doing much about the clinching, but he on top of everything else outside the rule book. Issuing warnings to both for pushing down on the neck or punching behind the head. Thompson rips a right hook downstairs. Potgieter tries an uppercut but Thompson is smothering him. Thompson flurries. Crowd getting really into this. Messy staccato inside brawl.

Round 6

Potgieter comes out swinging. Thompson is faking high and low with his right glove but not jabbing. Clinch. Left uppercut by Thompson, doubled up while holding Potgieter with his right arm on the ref's blind side. Potgieter nods and soaks them up. Potgieter with a right uppercut on the body. Thompson with a body-head shredding combo. Thompson frees his right arm for a hook on Potgieter's temple. Another low blow from Thompson. Potgieter in a bad way from this one. Ref calls time out. Surprised no point taken or final warning issued Thompson. As soon as time in called, now Potgieter lands a low blow. Ref lecturing them both "you don't do that! Good fight this, don't spoil it", and says the next low blow loses a point. Thompson now putting right jabs up into Potgieter's face. Clinch. Each banging the sides of each other's trunk or jaw with their free hand.
