April twenty-second at MotorPoint Arena in Cardiff, on DAZN. IBF world super featherweight title at stake, Rakhimov's first defense. This match-up was supposed to have taken place last November as the co-main event on the Bivol vs. GRS card, with the roles opposite from what they are now. Cordina would have gone in as titlist and Rakhimov as challenger, but the champ suffered a broken hand and left Rakhimov to face Zelfa Barrett for the vacant strap. Now he's coming to reclaim his property. Both are undefeated. In addition to local support cheering him on in his bid to regain, the Cardiff native will bring ½" of height over the Qurghonteppan - while the defending Tajik has the higher KO rate and will be the first southpaw Cordina has faced professionally.
Oddsmakers had Cordina favored -189 last fall. Curious to see where betting odds land now in light of Rakhimov having to get off the canvas to defeat Barrett.
I really like Cordina, but unlike most, I wont allow a highlight reel KO give me amnesia. He struggled mightily in several fights beforehand, against far bummier featherfisted pressure fighters, like Faroukh Kourbanov and Mario Enrique Tinoco, who were also, not southpaw knockout artists. I can see Shavkat grinding him down and stopping him late.
Shavkat is good. Sadly cordina has to take these dangerous fights because stevenson is ducking him to fight midgets
