Promoter, Gary Shaw discussed HBO's proposal to create a tournament at 140 pounds.

Shaw said, ''HBO offered us a lot of money for a 140 pound tournament. The only people who said yes were Don King, for Alexander and me, for Bradley. Shaefer said, 'No, Khan doesn't want to fight this one and Ortiz doesn't want to fight this one''.

''What HBO should have said to Sheafer is 'we have no use for Khan, Maidana and Ortiz. When they're ready to fight the best fights against the best fighters out there, come back and we'll put them on HBO''.

To be fair, if Khan Vs Ortiz happens, Bradley Vs Alexander happens, the winners can meet each other anyway.

I'd prefer for Khan to be facing Maidana, I guess Kotelnik-Maidana II will have to happen :yep

Thanks...not sure what benefit GBP would have in putting the 4 fighters named into a tourney that would only result in King and Shaw having their pockets lined.....even though the story has only just hit the Scene, its quite an old one.

Maidana is a walk over. Khan needs better opponents at this stage in his caree.

Maidana should be the next one for Khan. It's what all the boxing fans want.

It would be better if they made it an 8 man event with a straight knockout, that way nobody will be tied to it for the next 2 years unless they are winning.

    Khan
    Bradley
    Alexander
    Maidana
    Judah
    Ortiz
    Kotelnik
    Marquez

Yep. The Con man said he wanted it after the Paulie fight, then got his people to say No a week later.

This was a few months back and my understanding was Shaw gave a proposal to HBO and they said it was okay if the other parties agreed. Knowing Shaw, whatever he had on the table would have been certain to slant to his economic advantage. I think Schaeffer told him that basically you don't dictate to us how we promote our fighters.

They turned it down without any consideration. No negotiation or anything, just "NO". Schaeffer said they wanted to take Con man in a "different direction". :-:)-:)-(

And as I recall it, it was HBO who made the offers, not Shaw. After all, it was the Con man who started the talk after his victory over Paulie.
