Shaw: Nobody steps up to bankroll Darchinyan-Donaire II

I'm not 100% sure on the demographics of the people who watch his fights, but he's been the headliner on Showtime in his past 3 fights, there's not many other fighters below 126 who can do that. Morel and Montiel haven't been doing that, therefore i can only assume that the TV companies are drawing sufficient numbers for Darchinyan fights that they wouldn't gather for these other guys.

Kid can box but I dunno if he beats Darchi a much improve Darchi.

 

I think the plan is to have Donaire fight at 115 vs Concepcion, win, then fight the names at 115. Not every fight has to be a super fight, he has three stoppage wins since stopping Darch, against decent fighters. He'll get a WBA interim trinket at super fly if he beats Conce.

Donaire / Darchinyan can still happen. Arum doesn't want to look desperate, and after all, his guy won. And there are plenty of fights for him at 112 and 115.

Shaw needs Darch to keep bringing in the cash much more so than Arum needs Donaire too do it, so eventually Shaw will fold and make Darch / Donaire 2 if he can't find something else, also, Vic isn't getting any younger, Donaire still has plenty of time.

If Vic loses, Donaire won't have any reason to fight him again. I hope they do fight again its a very interesting fight.

 

how come darchinyan should get $2.3M when pac and jmm during their first fight at 126 cannot even get a cool $1M? clearly shaw doesn't want his cash cow to fight donaire and asking for a whopping $2.3M just means that the rematch is impossible.

 

Vic doesnt seem to be having much trouble getting
the big fights - whilst Donaire seems to have trouble
getting any fights at all..

Its not who would win the rematch, its basically who needs
the rematch more in terms of their career - and thats Donaire,
Vic doenst need him to continue being a name.

Because Donaire didnt capitilise on beating Vic last time, he
now needs Vic more than ever again.

It's not Nonito's fault if Shaw mothballed him after knocking out his prized fighter. It's not Arum's fault that his supposed opponents backed out and had convenient excuse of not fighting him. But Donaire is slowly climbing up the heights of greatness, just wait in the next two years, the boy is still young at 27. Donaire looked impressive in beating slow Kirilov, fading fighters like Mijares and Arce but I don't think he can erase from his memory his worst beating at the hands of the Pinoy fighter. As I have said, Nonito does not need Darchinyan. It's Darchi who needs Nonito.

 

You have to remember that Shaw mothballed him for one year after he knocked out his favorite fighter Darchi. That's why he was forced to leave for Arum. When he transferred to Arum a year ago, his opponents like Montiel and Morel dodged him by accepting fights in the upper division. Anyway, Arum is taking care of his career right now and he will be given fights in the coming years.

Btw. I don't know what will happen to Darchi if ever he lost to Agbeko. He will go back to superflyweight and I don't think the rematch w/ Donaire will be attractive for fans to see.

 

$2.3M to launch this fight? In ESB, they call pricing oneself out as what?..... Ducking.

no filipino will pay darchinyan 2 million dollars. does shaw even understand what 2 million is in philippine peso? that's like an entire city's budget for a year or something

 

Yeah, if they really think anyone, anywhere is going to give guys that small $2 million for a fight they're deliberately pricing themselves out the market, or at least Shaw is.

 

lol I think he's looking for 3-400 thousand PPVs, not a few off ESB. With you paying for one PPV between 11, lol, I don't think that will convince Shaw..
