Inasmuch as Bernard stated during his post-fight press conference that he wanted to pursue the rematch against Roy Jones, Jr. rather than fight Chad Dawson, I wanted to offer a slot on Chads next undercard for that fight. HBO is holding an April date for Chad. I would be willing to pay Bernard and Roy $200,000.00 each, the same purse Bernard fought for in his fight against Ornleas, though I cannot guarantee the fight will be televised since HBO would be making that decision, presumably based on its evaluation of Bernards and Roys last performance." If Bernard decides to take on Danny Green instead, please wish him luck for me and know that Im hopeful he will not break Roys record of 122 seconds. Gary Shaw is the biggest wise ass in boxing. Hopkins needs to fight Dawson and shut Shaw's fat ass up.
Apparently being a big pile of vile goo doesn't necessarily mean you can't crack a good joke every once in awhile.
Screw Shaw. He's just jealous because he knows a Roy fight would do better than his relatively unknown fighter.
I would like to see Bernard fight Dawson too. To me, Dawson is a one dimensional fighter in the sense that he can only fight defensive and looks way outta his element whenever he has to come foward. However, his reach, height, and speed allow him to be an outside fighter against almost anybody in the division, including an old ass Glen Johnson and an old ass Tarver both of whom were whipped in emphatic fashion by Hopkins. Dawson vs Tarver was almost unwatchable because both are guys that like to fight on the outside, so it was a very boring fight that consisted of one man getting brave momentarily and throwing a bunch of shots that are blocked by the other man, and then repeated. That was pretty much the theme of the fight. Hopkins though, despite being the smaller man against Tarver fought well when he was aggressive early on, and made Tarver feel like he was in position where he had to become more aggressive. Hopkins was able to capitalize on this and eventually took away Tarver's heart. Once Tarver's heart was gone, Hopkins went back on the offensive and began to beat the **** outta him in the last few rounds. With Dawson it will be interesting because I did see him put his hands up and clumsily move foward against Tarver often more than Tarver was willing to engage him. But considering how average Dawson looked coming foward, if he uses this approach against a boxing master like Hopkins, he will be picked apart with right hands and then we'll see how much heart this kid has. But yeah.....Hopkins needs to fight Dawson. This **** has gone on for too long.
Dawson does not DESERVE this fight... the guy who ducks mandatory (non-handpicked) fights and accuses another fighter of ducking him is a joke. Luckily he doesn't have fans or draw power, so I guess Hopkins' gonna go after bigger and better things. Adamek, Bute, Haye... hell, even Jean Pascal brings more to the table (a world title for example, something Dawson does not have).
Dawson is in No-Man's Land - and Gary makes statements like this. If I was Hopkins - I would make them starve. Dawson's name isn't big enough to draw a decent crowd. On top of that - him and Shaw have spent the last 2 years complaining about fighting guys in there 40's and now he's persuing the oldest of all. His last 4 fights were 2 against Tarver and 2 against Johnson - so he wants his 5th straight Senior fight. Dawson and Shaw should look the fight Jean Pascal - should he win again. That would be a decent fight for him and a toss up for me to pick the winner. Hopkins has so many more options on the table. I would rather see him fight Adamek for the Cruiseweight Title in Atlantic City. That would be a nice fight and very local - should draw a big crowd.
at Shaw making those comments.. To be honest, practically no one wants to face that possibility right now but I say Hopkins should seriously consider retirement very soon and certainly not try to land a fight with a guy like Haye at heavyweight ! Hops is Hops but the man is 45 years old and I don't care if anyone tells me he doesn't look like it and he still boxes well in the ring....the fact remains that at 45 years of age...YOU CAN LOOK OLD INSTANTLY IN A SPORT LIKE BOXING ! He's very smart at picking his challenges normally but if he elects to fight at heavyweight....I think he'll regret it very much !!!
No one wants to fight Dawson. I keep hearing about Cloud and Pascal, but what would those fights accomplish for Dawson??? No to mention that Cloud was offered a chance at a Dawson fight but wanted nothing to do with it knowing that he would get a title shot vs Woods. Hopkins isnt dumb and he never has been. Hopkins pretty much knows that he isnt going to beat Dawson, and on top of that he isnt going to get a huge payday to do it. In a way I feel sorry for Dawson, Its pretty clear that NO ONE wants to fight him, duck?? who the **** has he ducked??? He isnt the one that pulled out of the fight with Diaconu, he isnt the one that told Cloud to go after Woods instead. I know that guys like to defend thier fighters in this case Hopkins, but making up **** to get it done doesnt work. I personally dont blame Hopkins for not wanting to fight Dawson, what i have a problem with is fans that are bitching about the fact that Dawson wants to fight him, why wouldnt he want to fight him, many has Hopkins as the best Lt heavyweight in the world, and all have him in the top two or three. It appears that Dawson for no good reason is going the way of Mayweather and becoming a very hated fighter on this site. Im not really sure why.
