I hope his dad finds him a real trainer so he can correct some of his flaws. He's got a lot of talent, but I'm afraid it will go to waste unless he gets with a good trainer soon. I really enjoy the kid's fights regardless.
You still live in MD, man? If so, where at? We should catch a fight sometime...lots of good ones coming up. I might go to Philly or Bmore to watch MP-AM. Last time I paid any attention to Porter btw, was when he sparred with MP before the Cotto fight.
I met Shawn at Pac's training camp before the cotto fight. He's a humble guy who's easy to be approached at..
He's got some athletic talent but I've never liked watching him fight. :blood Munoz was his least aesthetically grotesque televised performance yet, but even that wasn't pretty. He's just got way too much going on offensively, there are several punches that literally air-ball for every one that lands. He needs to calm the **** down and combine that talent with some sense and sensibility. Until then he won't be ready to make the jump from prospect to contender.
My old roommate is a teacher at the school that Porter attended in Ohio. It's nice to see some local talent, though he switches between saying he's from Akron and Cleveland when he's really from Stow. He has a brother that was an amateur boxer, too, but I guess he didn't want to fight pro.
The benavidez/porter sparring session was a thing of beauty on Benadivez part. Such a shame that it got deleted.
I'm living in VA right outside of DC. But yea we should, I usually order those fights though I got a 63" plasma over here and the beer is much cheaper ;p
He has some glaring technical flaws but he's always looking to land a KO punch and that makes for good entertainment imo.
