I think there is a lot of dodgy business in boxing tbh (aka fixes/not coming to win). There's consistent dodgy reffing and scorecards, I don't see how believing a fight is a fix (given the already existing blatant corruption) would warrant being called a conspiracy theorist.
NDAs would help with that.. there is still time for people to come out but it would be a matter of when that'd be the case
That was as blatant fix as anyhting I'd ever seen.. In fact I have it up there with Malik Scotts diving performance against Wilder or Larteys wrestling pounce to the floor after being slapped on his/glove by that white collar boxer. If Canelo Kovalev wasn't a fix I'd be extremely shocked
He’s not wrong about Linares lack of urgency. he was clearly down on the cards with a hurt fighter hugging & clinging on for dear life. however, To imply that it was fixed ... why would linares hurt him to begin with then? why not just pull & flop like Malik Scott?
So by his logic Shane Mosley threw the fight against Floyd or Wlad threw the fight back AJ. Both had their opponents badly hurt for a round and couldn’t pull the trigger the rd. That’s ridiculous at some point age catches u to these fighters and that’s was happened to Linares who’s been in many wars.
Haney simply made the final bell and won the vast majority of rounds. Unbelievable anyone would buy into the idea that Linares must have thrown the fight because he couldn't finish the job when he was being thoroughly outboxed most of the night
i dont really believe he was bought off. not like an explicit deal. but i did find his attitude post fight peculiar. not in line with his position and performance. not how a guy who still feels alpha would act. he looked awfully content and congenial for someone who just let a multimillion dollar opportunity slip away in 6 minutes.
I feel where Porter is coming from. It did feel odd that Linares was not throwing all he had to get the finish. Almost seemed content to let Haney tie him up in the 11th. I don't want to cry "fix", but it may just have been that Linares knew this was a "passing of the torch" fight, where the young buck takes out the old dog and builds his name. Maybe it was something subconscious in Linares. Another solid point, Porter says that Linares had the energy and the mind to "guide" Haney to his corner. Your mind simply does not go to that place when you are completely spent. I don't 100% subscribe to the "fix" angle, but let us not pretend that boxing is a squeaky clean sport.
What was the agreement? That Linares takes a beating for 12 rounds. It is really, really hard to beat up someone who is holding on for dear life. And Linares is 35 and got the crap beat out of him for 10 rounds. You don't just suddenly enter a new gear like that.
Hard to understand what prompted Linares to back off throttling Haney who was skipping about on ***** street.
