Seriously, why the hell not? Gómez is coming off two really nice wins since his close loss to Porter. Paredes and Kamegai may not be huge names but they are solid welterweights and he beat them both clearly despite losing points (knockdowns vs. Paredes; deduction vs. Kamegai) and both were exciting nationally televised fights, raising his profile. Meanwhile, the options for Porter aren't what they were back when he wore a belt. Then he could say there were bigger fish to fry than a Gómez rematch, but win lose or draw against Broner he is still empty-handed and on the comeback trail. Gómez is a risky proposition given his recent strong form and the fact that he came the closest to exposing Porter and snatching his zero of anyone before Kell Brook with the exception of Julio Diaz. Porter isn't likely to be able to waltz back into the world title picture even with a W over Broner, however. The path to a chance at redemption ought to lead through another solid WW contender...and Gómez is one, and rematching him makes dollars and sense.
A fight before Broner? Or was the Broner fight cancelled or something. I guess it's ok for a stay busy fight to gain more momentum.
I don't know about this. I find it bizarre that Haymon wants either of these two to get another L at this stage, and the most likely scenario I can think of why is to give Mayweather an easy opponent for September. Porter or Broner on PEDs stand little chance against Mayweather....fully drug tested? No chance
I think both have hit their ceilings only Gomez realizes the type of fights he "should" take and Porter doesn't yet. I think it would be a reasonable fight should Porter lose to Broner.
He won't beat Broner. :nod I suspect that had those cuts not occured, Porter would have handled him easier than he did. I suspect Porter to knock him out the next time around.
Even should he beat him. Defeating Broner doesn't somehow automatically launch Porter back into a position where a Gómez rematch is 'beneath' him.
It does though He'll be hyped up again and can take another big fight and fighting Gomez after accumulating that hype would be very foolish
I hate them both so I win either way. Don't care. Rooting for double KO. Gun to my head, Porter. Just a bit too big and brings echoes of what Maidana brought to get Broner all verklempt.
What? Since when does a W over post-Maidanaized Broner at WW give you elite level hype and insulate you from having to fight tough contenders to earn your way back up the mountain? :huh
Thats what i was thinking initially as well But I think the weight is gonna affect Porter significantly Hard for me to pick this one
