Porter might be boring to some but he is far from the worse boxer...i thought last night fight with Garcia was great. I know what to expect from Porter now. If you looking for knockouts then he definitely aint for you...but if you appreciate the art of boxing then he is amazing in my opinion. Just out of interest how do you think a rematch with Brook would go if they were to fight next?
Totally agree with @moog and @Potwash I really enjoyed the fight, and it was definitely the right decision. Garcia landed some nice shots but he not only got outworked, he got outsmarted too. Garcia wasn’t shifting from the centre of the ring at first, so Porter boxed on the outside throwing feints, catching Garcia with counters whilst backing up and drawing Garcia to the edges into a scrap. He’s an intelligent fighter.
He seems a very likeable guy too, I thought his post fight in ring interview was very humble. Although he does look like a pint sized Jamie Foxx
I love the art of boxing but Porter has none of the art.!!...He just bumrushes in head first and if he dont land he clinches....He is like a very very shitty midget version of Andre Ward who actually mastered the art.. That said he would wipe out Brook now imo...He is all over the place with injuries/weights/bad luck....He will be cashing out soon Bellew has made the blueprint for UK boxers on how to earn big without being in proper fights
He was underdog in both them fights against Haye and he now wants to fight one of finest p4p fights of our generation. I think he gets some unfair stick. Regarding Porter, he times his attacks really well. Bum rushing is something you can attribute to someone like Eubank Jn. Porter on the other hand works his way onto the inside with the jab, feints, using angles. His body work reminds me of Hatton. I rate him highly.
Great post, right on both points. Porter was unlucky against Thurman, very close fight. How anyone can look at Porters record and think he isnt world class i will never know.
Yes, there a number of one-dimensional boxing fans who don't grasp that there are many different styles and types of boxing and that the game is about inflicting more punishment than you take. Porter's style is not pretty but given his record, it seems to be effective.
I am a fan of 'Showtime' but nobody has mentioned his constant fouling and headbutts. Rarely a fight goes by without him either inadvertedly cutting himself or his opponent. Elbows, headbutts, rabbit punches, arms and back punches are all a big part of his game. I am all for a bit of gamesmanship in moderation but Porter takes it to the extreme. Also, another weird father and son 'boxing team'
