Lauzon is ****ed. He can't wrestle well enough to drag Guillard down to where the BJJ disparity will matter and he certainly can't stand with him. Shields has a chance because he does often outwrestle guys that he shouldn't, but I'm picking Ellenberger to shatter his Glass Jaw in this one. On the feet it's all Ellenberger and if he can avoid being ground down against the cage or on the mat, he'll bust that Fragile Mandible into pieces.
Shields is a very feared grappler now. Kampmann is a good grappler but wanted to avoid it. Hendo got dominated on his back and even GSP didn't want to have a full on grappling match. Shields stand up is poor, even if he busted up GSP :yep Pure grappling with Shields will get you ****ed. If you try to avoid the grappling he may still enforce it on you. I don't see Guillard Lauzon on this card? When is that?

I see Sheilds and Ellenberger both in the top 10 WW's in the world , Sheilds due to resume has a higher ranking than Ellenberger as it stands right now , but as ability goes these two are very evenly matched I beleive Sheilds to be the better all round grappler , thats combining wrestling and JJ , i do however beleive Ellenberger is the better out and out wrestler , even though they wrestled at the same level at high school Ellenberger has very solid and efficient boxing , he has good footwork and transitions his strikes to TD's effectively , he rarely gets hit due to his timing and his distance awareness , Sheilds is a grappler with limited stand up technique , that however does not stop him engaging opponents in a stand up battle because he is very aware that most opponents will not attempt to take him down I see Ellenberger jabbing and hitting Sheilds with straight punches , generally picking him off as he comes in , i beleive Sheilds will not take Ellenberger down but there is always the potential that he pulls guard , as the fight goes on i see Ellenberger looking to score with effective boxing and wrestling , if Sheilds tires Ellenberger will put him on his back and release , to score points , or alternatively depending how confident he is of his top game , look to hit Sheilds from the top and score that way , Jon Fitch like , i see Ellenberger winning all 3 rounds and taking a UD in a technical cat and mouse style fight . Guillard has sneaked into the top 10 LW's in the world with his recent resurgence and is a future title contender , Lauzon sits in the top 20 LW's in the world as is a very well rounded fighter . Guillard has superior speed , power and wrestling while Lauzon gets the nod in the JJ game I dont think this one is gonna see the distance , going off Guillard's current form he just looks the full package , if Lauzon bull rushes him and applies pressure up against the cage looking to secure a TD he runs the risk of a) gassing out and b) becoming predictable , if he chooses to stand in front of Guillard and engage him in a stand up fight he could find himself on the end of a quick TKO , Guillard's game plan is simple , sprawl and brawl , Lauzon however has to be clever and un predictable , he needs to fight multi paced and what ever he engages Guillard with he has to be dynamic to make Guillard at the least slightly un comfortable and force him into making a mistake , he is not the best grappler once he's tired , but these were traits of the old Guillard , its gonna be a tough night for Joe IMO Im off the opinion he's getting TKO'd either in 1 or 2 , if it goes the distance ill be very suprised
Good post pal but dont be shocked if Shields can get a takedown. Ellenberger is a great wrestler but so was Dan Henderson. I think if Shields uses his decent jab that he has it might setup a takedown and obviously once he gets top hes one of the best in the game. I think this in interesting fight because while Ellenberger could pull Dan Henderson and put Shields on his ass with his powerful strikes he could very well gas himself out because we seen that Shields can survive. However if Ellenberger is his game and wont allow a takedown this is going to be a nightmare for Shields. Also with Lauzon yup once hes tired hes pretty average and Melvin will knock his head off if he doesnt early on but I dont expect him to early. Joe comes out like a bat out of hell the 1st 3 minutes honestly I do expect him to get a takedown but it ends up like Dunham-Guillard where Guillard can wall walk and eventually he starts using his explosive hands to take out a worn Lauzon.
Quite right , Sheilds is an outstanding wrestler ,what i probably should of said is i dont see Sheilds bullying Ellenberger into multiple TD's as oppose to me saying that Sheilds cannot secure a TD against Ellenberger . Second to that , i do still beleive as the fight goes on and tiredness kicks in , Ellenberger will come on strong and i see him outwrestling Sheilds at that point , thats if he decides to go down that route , he may just decide im a better boxer if i avoid TD's i take a decision based on effective striking and TDD . Im hoping Ellenberger has the balls and the heart to take the fight to Sheilds and apply pressure from multiple dimensions , i do think he will , but like i say who's to know until FN .................
