For those who don't know who Shemuel Pagan is, check his bio. A thread was started this morning on Eastsideboxing entitled "Why did people think Zab Judah..." and the issue of all the "what ifs" with Zab were asked. Judah is extremely talented and came into the sport as an accomplished New York amateur. That is why he has succeeded on a high level for so long in boxing. You can't deny it. Shemuel Pagan, also from Brooklyn, is a more decorated amateur, has been winning National Titles since 2002, and is only the second fighter in its 83 year history, to win Golden Gloves 5 times (Mark Breland). He is the only fighter to do it at 3 different weight classes: 2 x 119lbs, 2 x 132lbs, 1 x 141lbs. Pagan is an explosive southpaw... a fighting style similar to Super Judah. He fights March 5 on the undercard @ Amerihealth Pavilion, in Newark, NJ. So far, he doesnt have an opponent. My guess is, a couple of the guys they had lined up, saw his videos on Youtube and said, we want no part of this kid. Shemuel is a prospect to keep an eye on. It's only his second fight on the 5th, so it won't be aired on the PPV, but if you live in the NY/NJ/PA area, it's worth it to come out and see it live.
Vinny O'Brien is on the card as well. Another accomplished amateur, from NJ. Anyone who thinks boxing is dead, should look to the amateur ranks. These kids are the future.
My sources tell me that they have an opponent for Shem Pagan. It is Marcos Garcia, from Camden. 0-3, but never been stopped.
