Sherdog radio said SF GP winner is still behind UFC champ

In the UFC there are two real heavweights worth a ****(Lesnar and Cain, especially Cain) and the rest are garbage.

In StrikeForce the Heavyweight Division is pretty stacked.

The MMA's like Sherdog and the others...know that if they say bad things that they wont beable to cover the next UFC Event. It's a joke and if you work for Sherdog you know it, but scared to say it.

They've already been banned from UFC events. Its diisgraceful to see the way the UFC acts with other promotions.

 

I'd say Sherdog is wrong, the SF GP winner will undoubtedly be #1 in the world. Particularly if the winner is Fedor, Werdum, or Overeem.

 

Cain, JDS, Lesnar, Carwin, Mir, those are the only guys in the UFC that I think have the potential to fight at the highest level right now and the last three all have serious question marks hanging over them after recent performances.

Nelson, Kongo, Browne, Struve, Rothwell etc are decent mid level fighters but have never shown the potential to be amoung the divisions elite while Nog and Crocop have clearly declined.

 

I wish we could see a super six containing; Fedor, Overeem, Werdum, JDS, Cain, Brock. That would clear a lot of things up. I believe the bridge in this is JDS's win over Werdum.

With Fedor you have a bona fide legend, the only thing being his inactivity and wear and tear. No matter how much you may hate Brock, I have to wonder what would happen if the two collided. Without question, Fedor has the hands to put Brock to sleep, but I wonder if it'd be a one shot knockout? And what if Brock managed to get him down? I would love to see it.

Overeem's just untouchable. I really don't see how Werdum is going to lock in a submission on that guy anymore, I see him winning this thing if he keeps his current form, his only weakness being his questionable chin, but I don't know if anyone's going to get near enough to him to test it for the next few years. I would say Cain has the best chance of beating him, knowing how technical his striking is and how good his cardio is. Obviously Overeem is the best striker in the tournament, but Brock would be walking into a slaughterhouse, JDS isn't there yet, Fedor we'd all love to see but I think Overeem would knock him out and Werdum has been stated.

Speaking of Werdum, I've looked more at his victory and articles concerning his fight with Fedor and it doesn't seem like Fedor actually knocked him down, Werdum was letting him play into his hands which I've got to give him more respect for, and if Fedor doesn't change his wild attempts to finish, it could very well happen again should Werdum get past Overeem. But still, if he can't get a guy on the ground, and he comes across someone like Cain or JDS, they can very well paste him as easy as Overeem or Fedor could. I think he'd find Brock the easiest to sub but there's no guarantee he'd survive his GNP.

JDS I haven't looked at enough. I saw his destruction of Gonzaga and was too busy watching Nelson sweat and hope he landed a haymaker to watch what JDS was actually doing. He's obviously got massive power and is a decent all round fighter. I think we'll find out what he truly has in the Cain fight. He could be better than Cain for all we know, and I think Cain is very much in the same unknown quantity JDS is. There's a bit of a fog surrounding both of them considering how easily they've blasted out their respected competition.

And Brock's just Brock, really. A massive guy flawed in his striking and general defense department. If he gets hold of any of these guys they could be in trouble. His worst match, I think, would be Overeem. He wouldn't have his size advantage and I think he'd get ****ing tanked in a round. I don't think he has the ability to block Overeem's striking, and if one knee lands it's game over.

It's a moot point considering it's never going to happen, but I would favour Overeem or Cain to win, but of course I'd never doubt Fedor and JDS is still an unknown quantity in my eyes.

 

Brock's more of a curious choice than anything. He's a big 'what if', in my eyes. Too interesting and appealing to leave out.

I must confess I don't know enough about Barnett or Silva to give them a slot. So I'd just be talking bollocks if I put them in there.

 

Take out Bigfoot and that would be my 6 as well, I'd have Bigfoot waiting if anyone got injured though.

 

What I think we can say reasonabley well is that the whole ideal of a "new breed" that had suddenly improved the standard at HW was a load of bollocks invented by Dana to sell Brock and cover not having many of the older names. From the start I always said the only guy who had the potential to live up to that hype was Overeem, none of the other big men have a well rounded high level skill set and really arent any different from someone like Kerr back in the day.

Guys like Barnett, Sergei and AA on there best form are still elite HW's. The signs point to Barnett still being at that level to me (although he's never been the dominating fighter people seem to expect, closer to Nog in his ability to stay competive and pickup a sub), Sergei is a bit more uncertain but has looked in better form/shape recently and AA is very uncertain but unlike Crocop I do think theres still potential for him to rebuild as he did after the Sylvia loses.

 

I just noticed(don't go to their forums very often) sherdog changed their forum names. The forum called "Zuffa/UFC Discussion" used to be something like "Premier league MMA" with "UFC and WEC" in description. "Worldwide MMA Discussion" used to be something like "Second Tier MMA orgs" with Strikeforce, EliteXC etc in description. They're trying to be more PC now ahahha.

No matter how hard they try they can't hide that they're on Zuffa payroll.

 

Damn right! Cain Velazquez is the one sitting at the top of the food chain as the UFC heavyweight champion. Hell, he was even voted the fighter of the year 2010 for his victories over Nogueira and Lesnar which combined added up to a better year than anyone else produced - even eclipsing Werdum and Edgar's grand accomplishments.
