Whilst Breland was a top class amateur and one of the best ever, Lomachenko lost 1 out of nearly 400 fights. That’s a staggering statistic. Two gold medals and his success in world championships pips Breland’s career for me.

Eubank seems to have this serious attitude towards sparring, e tried to get his son to spar with an American boxer and when the boxer said he didn`t want to spar Chris calle him a coward, sparring is just a time to practise fundamentals, nothing more.

That’s the way Eubank was used to in New York. All-out war in there. He said it developed his reflexes, timing, infighting and even chin like nothing else could.

That`s not true, learning fundamtals and doing drills is how you improve.

Not without that too. Try telling Patterson, Tyson, Eubank, Bowe, Hearns, Andries, McCallum & McClellan that hard sparring doesn’t work. Or indeed Benitez, Gomez, and LaPorte.

Breland never lost minutes never mind rounds. 90% KO ratio or something.

Andries was not a skilled fighter and maybe all that hard sparring is why Benitez has severe brain damage now, silly taking hard punches in training.

A quick look at what’s available of his record online would indicate that he certainly didn’t have a 90% KO ratio. It was higher than most amateurs but he certainly didn’t KO 9/10 on the elite amateur stage.

For the record I really like Breland and thought he was brilliant. But I don’t think he quite touches the top amateurs of which I would class Lomachenko, Stevenson, Papp and Savon.

Ok 75% whatever. He was always hailed by the US commentators as the greatest amateur boxer of all time.

He was fully expected to go on and be greater than Sugar Ray Robinson as a pro.

They also said he was the new Ray Robinson when he turned pro.

Nowhere near Ray`s level, Breland was just a poor man`s Tommy Hearns.

Andries improved no end at Kronk. From Southern Area level guy to WBC kingpin (when there were only two belts and 168 or 190 hardly existed).
