It was a good opportunity and a winnable fight for Sherro. On top of this I'm sure it'd be the biggest purse he'd recieved and an opportunity to fight overseas. Sure it was a step up in class, but it was a potentially winnable fight. He'll be better for the experience. What's so wrong with that?
Nothing wrong with it at all , good on him for having a go , if i were him i would use that purse to base myself in the UK for a couple of years and have say 5-6 fights v the up and coming Brits and eastern europeans that are based here , this i reckon would improve Sherro's game by 50% . i aint having a go @ the southern hemisphere boxing scene here either before anyone has a pop at me ,but imo the Northern hemisphere fighters fight higher class opponents and more reguarly when they are up and coming . im sure there are a few trainers in the UK who would welcome this kid with open arms . Win ,Win situation for Sherro imo .
overall, you guys go way too soft on Australian fighters. i want to see them get better, but all you guys do is pat them on the back and tell them everything will be ok. apart from Kostya Tszyu, no australian fighter of recent times has lived up to expectation. they are all bridesmaids, but never the bride!
beating Nate Campbell is not living up to expectation. he got bashed up in the 2 fights following that.
Thanks Teke , I will take this a stage futher and suggest perhaps Mundine should have made the move , possibly after the Kesser fight , up here he would have been pitted against a few decent legit S/middles and probably winning against blokes like Veit , Inkin , Steglize ,Froch etc , Mundine post Kessler sort of got himself into the comfort zone ie fighting blokes lower in standard to those i just mentioned with the exception of Sam & Danny , he would have imo been firmly placed in the upper tier of the S/Middle weight division ready for a shot at who ever claims the belts post Calzaghe era ( by then it could havebeen him ), I got a bit of a rep here for bagging Mundine but the fella as ive always maintained has talent but just seems content on just fighting lesser comp @ home in Aus . the fella could have been well in the mix but as it turns out has a rep now world wide for being a bit of a shithouse ..
So beating the guy who is currently and for all extensive purposes the man at 130lbs isn't living up to expectation? What the hell is then? He fulfilled his potential and then some in my opinion. Yeah, he got belted by an all time great in Barrera and stopped by the hard punching Ganoy when he was done. What's your point caller?
How about Katsidis then... He won the interim title impressively knocking out Graham Earl. Then took the ring champion, and long time belt holder ten hard rounds, was winning on all score cards clearly before getting caught with a good shot. Still, a great fighter who put up an excellent performance. Your mistake here Barge, is that you are totally exaggerating, saying we are glorifying these guys. We are not, only supporting, there is a massive difference. No one thinks that katsidis is an elite fighter, or anything like that. Same with the rest of the Aussie fighters, but they are still good fighters. You say no other aussie has been successful, what about Vic Darchinyan?? Danny Green? They still won titles, and in Vic's case had a heap of defences. Your image of successful is being a top p4p fighter for some reason... The only person being unrealistic here is you mate.
