the same was said about lightweight champion katie taylor ... until she left the ring as a winner on points against amanda serrano last saturday in new york´s madison square garden. claressa shields will be in a very similar role, if the fight against savannah marshall is made. of course, shields and marshall are both middle weights, bigger and taller than taylor and serrano and more punching power comes with it. comparing taylor vs. shields via boxrec: taylor: 20 W (6 by ko) / 0 L; shields: 12 W (2 by ko) / 0 L. and serrano vs. marshall: serrano: 42 W (30 by ko) / 2 L / 1 D; marshall: 12 W (10 by ko) / 0 L. you do the maths. i wonder if shields vs. marshall will be the bigger fight, compared to taylor vs. serrano. i have the feeling claressa is more famous and known in the wider (u.s.) public (of course, since she is american). and the weight class is higher, which might ensure higher prestige ... (?)
Serrano fought nothing like Marshall, she was just wild, brawling, if Shields fought wide open like Taylor she`ll be destroyed, Marshall is more skilled than all of them.
It wont be big like Taylor-Serrano, regardless of boxing fundamentals. Its Ireland vs Puerto Rico in NYC. It was the perfect mix. Shields and Marshall have nothing like the built in support.
They will in Hartlepool and the wembley crowd will be biggder than the MSG crowd and the atmosphere will be electric.
