Maybe not specifically a boxing/training question, but does come up during running for people of a certain age.

I know footwear has a lot to do with it, but what are some things that can be incorporated into training to help reduce or prevent the effects of this pain in the ass condition?

let your legs rest, wear shoes that are comfortable, use dr sholes/gel insoles in your shoes....run on track instead of running on the street.....most tracks that look red in color are made out of cement/rubber mix, they give you extra bounce when you run which helps to prevent splints........most imporant of these is let ur shins heal, if you keep excercising even though u got splints it could develop into some serious problem

  3. I always used to get these, at one point it was absolute agony. But like all muscles i eventuely developed that little bit of muscle over my shin to counter the force and now its all good.

I've helped 2 friends over this. Skipping and changing jogging technique to work on that muscle in the rested shin area is what helps best.

plus lots of ice and massage cant hurt

    Thanks guys.

What are some good workout shoes/sneaks/xtrainers in general? Particularly shin-friendly ones?

I also need arch support because of a somewhat bum knee I've had two cartilage ectomies on. So there needs to be a balance.
