Anyone here suffer from shin splints? I get mad shin splints when I jog or skip, it’s less sever with running shoes but not ideal when I wear boxing shoes for sessions couldnt think of nothing worse changing shoes through a session
I thought somebody had bumped my 15 year old thread https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/shin-splints.173470/
How much stretching do you do? Stretch every part of your body. I only got them in my teens through lack of stretching. More so the hamstrings, tight hamstrings mess up everything.
not gonna lie not loads just the generic warm up and stretches at the start, I do seem to take ages to warm up though. Always a rush to make sessions so straight into it. Any specific hamstring stretches you recommend?
I remember getting them from roadwork on concrete, when I was about 18. So I was still growing. They didn't last long, like they went after a month or so. I made sure to do my sprints on grass. After all this, I never had the shin splints again. Looking back, maybe it was just because of a sudden increase in training at this time, especially on hard surfaces. All through my 20's and 30's (I am now), I have been able to run as much as I want on pavements. Skipping in gym - no probs. Stretching as mentioned before - SO important. Also foam rollers - try and use these aswell, I have been using recently I find they do help.
I'm the same mate. It's taking longer and longer to warm up too because I;m also over training and the body isn't recovering properly. Hami stretches for me are just sit down, extend the leg out so left leg pointing out to the left and pull back on the toes. Same thing on the other side. I reckon you probably won't be able to because there's no felixibility there and the hami's are too tight for you to reach your toes. I could be wrong however. If you can't pull back your toes just extend the arm as far as you can but ease it, don't go too hard too quick if you aren't flexible because you could twinge it lol. Another idea is pay someone to help you stretch if you can't find someone to help you with it. You can lay on your back and they can gently push your feet back towards the direction of your head. Again, slowly. And only go what you can, you don't need an injury. Massage Tiger balm A sports gel which has a heating aid but don't use too much. Pool or beach Heat bags Ice All good tools to help you get rid of shin splints. I only had them briefly back in the 1990's. They ****en kill and I couldn't run. I feel ya mate. You might just need some good old fashioned rest. Alternatively, try biking. That may not hurt but only one way to find out
I had them and someone recommended arch supports in my running shoes and it was like a miracle cure for me. From then on, whenever I got new shoes I’d first test out the size/height (whatever you call it) and durability of the arch support (did it just cave when I applied some pressure with a thumb) and went with shoes that had better arch support systems. Never had another problem.
I think I was about 17/18 when I had first flare up. I was terrible at stretching then but the following years it didn’t matter how much rest and stretching it always come back. What foam roller exercises do you do and areas target?
I like the sound of potential miracle cure haha. Did you buy ordinary off the shelf insoles or have custom ones made?
