Shinya Aoki: "I'm Better And Capable Of Beating UFC Fighters"

He's clearly a sickhead when it comes to grappling but what about his losses? I don't think I've seen his losses only his victories where he is pulling off sick moves.

Can anyone elaborate on his losses?

Two losses to Hayato Sakurai?

 

Sakurai is tough bro first off hes huge, a great fighter and isnt the easiest to get to the ground.

 

Penn would stop Aoki on his feet.

BJ's TD is good enough to stop it from going to the ground, and even then I think his BJJ is just as good as Aoki's.

 

Yeah I think Aoki has almost virtually no chance agianst Penn. He gets raped standing, cant take him down. He could pull guard but BJs posture and JiuJitsu skills are arguablly even better. Aoki has a beautiful guard but submitting Joachim Hansen aint like taping BJ Penn. We have only seen BJ struggle at BJJ when he fought at much bigger GSP and had his guard passed alot and Aoki cant do that as he wont TD Penn, wont sweep Penn. Id love to see them fight but in a pure grappling match adding in strikes just causes Aoki to get humilated.

 

Yeah seeing a grappling match between the two would be great. Havn't really seen BJ grappling much but from what I have he looks superb.

 

Aoki probably wouldn't take Penn down in a conventional sense. But its very very difficult to stop the fight from going to the mat when youre opponent doesn't care how it gets there. Aoki is also pretty fast. In a ring he can cut the ring off and tie up somehow and pull guard, or pull some sort of acrobatics. In the cage it would be more difficult, but I still think he would get the fight to the mat at some point. From there he would either sumbit Penn, or Penn would control him and win te fight from there.

 

I dont see anybody penns size subing him in an mma match.

 

Aoki cant sub Penn.
Penn will either sub him or TKO him with GnP if the fight hits the ground

I believe Penn has the superior jiujitsu game and has faced superior competition throughout his career - up to and including current light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida. That said - I think Aoki is a very worthy challenger - much more worthy than recent contender Kenny Florian.

 

Browsing some grappling vids on youtube I saw this Aoki vs Marcelo Garcia.

I know Garcia is a beast but I waas not expecting Aoki to get worked like that.

Aoki's subs are way more diverse than Penn's....But Penn's sub defense is amazing. In other other words , Aoki would probably struggle like hell and lose by decision or tko. But anything is possible...

( Caol Uno once proved it.....the guy got owned in their first fight but managed to last the distance and draw in the rematch)..

Penn is physically stronger too....But anyway , Aoki personally impresses me because he's quite one dimensional...His striking is ****...his wrestling isn't anything special..But he excels in the sub department. He's so good at it that he still manages to be dominant in today's era.

Arona is another guy that comes to mind....One dimensional...But ultra dominant on the ground.
