I'm a creature of habit and thus, I'll be doing R-B-R here. Andre Ward just got interviewed, "You cannot experience success without taking on the risk of failure." Said he's gonna leave it in God's hands and hope to put on a great show. Miranda about to be interviewed. Miranda says Ward isn't the sort of fighter Pavlik and Abraham. Says Abraham and Pavlik have fought the best and Ward is just now "stepping up to the best." Miranda is wearing a PR flag shirt. Steve Albert asks Miranda if he's fighting for his career tonight and Miranda says he's going to fight until he can't do it. It's just another fight I'm gonna fight. He predicts a KO in the 10th round.
Our undercard fight is John Molina vs Frankie Archuleta Junior Lightweight action. Molina is an intriguing prospect. He has little in way of defense but some good power. All action and all drama. Molina puts himself in danger way too often and gets tagged a lot. I've seen smaller fighters get inside of him because he neglects his reach to try and throw a billion fights. That said he's charismatic and has power...which should get him far if he ever decides to stick around at 130.
Archuleta is essentially a blown up 126 lber (he weighed in at 126) but he finds some success with a looping right hand. Molina looks calm and measured. Molina nails a good uppercut but nothing too powerful. Right hand finds a home again for Archuleta. Molina is beginning to cook up a little bit but Archuleta is doing his point to avoid anything major. Molina stalking and Archuleta is cooking upstairs with a double hook upstairs. Nice left stops Archuleta in his tracks followed up by a good hook to punctuate the round.
Round 2 of Molina-Archuleta Molina with a strong jab to stop Archuleta to start the round. Archuleta pops to the body as both guys swing wildly for a second. Archuleta moves well for a guy pushing 80. More jabs from Archuleta as Molina digs to the body. Archuleta has thrown 4 jabs total so far. Archuleta slips a deadly right from Molina. Right digs to the body. Archuleta pops him with an uppercut on the inside as Molina continues to fight on the inside. Archuleta MUSCLES Molina into the ropes and gets popped with a nice combo from Archuleta. Archuleta DROPPED with a body combination.
Archuleta gets up at 6 and then tells the ref he doesn't want to fight. It's over. Shameful TKO2 for Molina.
Archuleta quit as soon as he got hit to the body in the 2nd round. Molina got hurt off the ropes and heated up instantly powering with a combo to the body and to the head. Archuleta told David Mendoza "That's it man." That caused Mendoza to stop it.
yep...it was'nt an impressive performance by Molina...He needs to work on his defence big time...Archuleta hit him flush quite a few times
Molina has a long way to go. In a way he reminds me of JCC Jr, A guy who has one great punch and good size but a whole bunch of unrefined skills. Goosen will probably do good work with him though. Shawn Estrada is being interviewed. He said he's putting in better work in the gym and better work on the road and is getting better. Says he prefers the pro game instead of the amateur circuit where "Ya gotta throw a million gazillion punches in 4 rounds." He's asked about the SMW division and pretty much dies on the spot, stuttering and rambling through a completely insane diatribe about MW being a punchers division and that "he fits in there." Asked about Miranda and Ward and he says if Ward fights on the outside it's an easy job.
Edison Miranda is coming out now wearing a shirt with the PR flag on it. Miranda looks very different...I think it's the haircut. The crowd is certainly on Andre Ward's side.
