that guarantee was for the Ortiz fight. The contract came into affect before the Guerrero fight where he got a 32 million guarantee. 41.5 million for Canelo and 32 again for Maidana

Well I guess SHO better hope they do over a million buys. An Ortiz-like contract would be better for SHO for the Maidana fight than a guarantee. Mayweather is the one getting the better end of the deal.

Honestly, given the economy and the card I have my doubts about this card doing 1 million buys. We'll see.

Well anyone who does care needs to reevaluate their life. Caring about the material wealth of something who couldn't give a **** whether you live or die is not only pathetic but insane.

I couldn't give a **** if Mayweather or any other boxer got paid 50p to fight. It's their choice and I don't wish them ill financially but how some people give a **** about them being super rich is beyond me.

Worry about world class, highly paid athletes when they star worrying about your rent.

It's not so much caring about the individual. It's more caring about the sport. How much the top draws in boxing make is a pretty good barometer when measuring the health of the sport on a mainstream level.

STFU you fool you dont give a **** about the sport, you just obsessed with one boxer and thats Floyd. just the other day your broke wellfare abuser ass was gloating about the supposedly low rating that Pac-Bradley II did and now you're telling us you care about the health of the sport. GTFO.

don't know about modernfonzie's history but he's right, if the networks are losing/not making much money on the biggest moneymaker in the sport. the networks are not going to invest into less profitable fights are they ??

    idiot.

showtime has its own boxing budget. cbs doesn micro-manage pedjr's fights.
they invested xxx millions, they want yyy profit off that investment.

you dont know who else gets a slice of the gate pie (showtime, mgm, gbp, tmt).

cable operators take half of the ppv buys.

    did i mention you're a damn idiot?

I have no interest in what Mayweather or any other fighter's personal finances are.

But, if Showtime/CBS, HBO, ESPN or any other network involved in boxing is losing money on it they are going to start slashing their boxing budget, which obviously means less boxing for us.

So, for that reason, I'm pretty interested in ppv sales, ratings, budgets, etc.

You think the gate money all goes to Floyd?
There's a whole list of employees that need to be paid!

As well, the cable and sattelite providers get a huge chunk of the PPV money. If I'm not mistaken, at least a third and in many instances more that that goes to the pockets of the TV providers.
Then with that the promoters get another huge chunk of the pie.
After that the undercard fighters have to get paid.
Then there's other employees and payments that need to get made to make the event happen.

At the end of the day if you pay Maywather 32 million and only 700k buy the fight, the promotion loses money because CBS/SHO/promoters will not walk away with it with money to put in the bank.

    There's associated costs, right?

-Advertising & Promotion (including billboards and TV spots -- this eats a lot of money)
-Site fees -- not actually sure how this works but I can't imagine it's free
    -insurance
-All Access - might fit under advertising, but it's a whole production in itself that Sho/CBS probably hires out of house talent to shoot and edit.

If it's anything like a blockbuster film (the Avengers for instance) marketing can eat up 1/3 of the production budget.

Anyway, I'm no expert in this stuff (probably pretty obvious) but I assume there must be a ton of expenses in putting this kind of thing on and I don't think it's as cut and dry as: cable providers get 50% of the ppv and the gate covers the rest.

The point of the thread is that his guaranteed purse isnt big enough to cause a loss in money. Nowhere near it. If he's taking home 32 guaranteed. And the event is bringing in 75 million between the gate and PPVs. Plus the money they get from sponsors, plus the money from the theaters, its really REALLY hard for sho to lose money.
