Even if Showtime lose money with every Floyd fight, people don't seem to realise that signing him was more about putting Showtime in the big leagues. Floyd's move to Showtime can be measured in the increase in subscriptions and viewing for other boxing events as much as his own. If Showtime directly break-even with Floyd over 6 fights then I can assure you they'll be delighted. What they should be worried about is Floyd's inevitable 50th fight, which will almost definitely be his last and be with Pacquiao. The hope would be them both being free agents promotionally and both not tied to either network - they could make the fight and then start a bidding war.
I know some guys have been harsh on you but you should look deeper into how PPV works. It is possible for them to lose money. At nearly 40 mil just to pay the fighters you need to do good numbers to break even. 500 to 800k buys would surely be a loss.
have you even work in corp? there are divisions within a company. there is a company within a company, for mergers and acquisitions. is obama managing your city?
youre an idiot for thinking showtime gets all the ppv money. what dont you not understand? another self -ownage gy a *****. stick to getting punched in the face ******.
That is a fair point, but the majority of the posters use PPV buys to gloat about their favourite fighter, **** on the fighter they hate on, not really to care about the health of the sport. There are numerous threads like this here, it's ****ing sad. I just want to see good fights.
Again, the counterpoint is that it would cause a loss of money as more than half of the 75 million would go for payment of everything other than the fighters and promoters themselves. If half of 75 million go to other than the promoter and fighters themselves, that leaves 37.5 million to disburse amongst the fighters and those promoting. Are you going to tell me that 5.5 million will be enough for Arum? Lets see, Maidana is getting paid 1.5 million that leaves 4.5 million left for Arum and he still has to pay the undercared fighters that include Khan, Collazo, Broner, etc............ That leaves zero for Arum, not to mention that Showtime and CBS would'nt be pocketing a dime since that would'nt be any money there for them. When you have one of the fighters guaranteed a 32 million purse, the PPV should be making in excess of 1.5 million for everyone involved to make money. Some of you are forgetting that the reason that Mayweather was forced to fight Canelo was because the Guerrero fight tanked in what Showtime was expecting to be the PPV. The Guerrero fight did about 900k in PPV and Showtime/CBS lost money in the event.
