I know I'm late on this one, but I don't think too many people saw it. I was surprised by just how great it was, considering it was featuring 4 relatively unknown prospects in Fernando Guerrero/Tyrone Watson and James De La Rosa / Tim Coleman. Only one I'd heard of before was Tim Coleman, but only from an interview. This card was really great and showed Fernando Guerrero as a definite prospect to look forward to. He had the crowd jacked up and then he put on a show. The audience was also really good in this one. That's usually a big problem in some of these types of fights, is unenthusiastic audiences, but the fights were too good for them to be apathetic. This was a great card, and while Fernando Guerrero stole the show (audience was going bonkers), De La Rosa/Coleman was a great fight.

Did anyone else see this card? What did you think, was it as impressive as I thought it was for a card with 4 prospects?

It was definitely the best Shobox card of the year. The crowd was insane, or at least for the Guerrero fight. They didn't really seem that interested in the main event. Either way, that was a great night of boxing. I hope to see Guerrero, De La Rosa, and Coleman all back on Shobox in 2009. Here's a thread I started the night of the card..

It was a great atmosphere and that is what I like to hear when there is a boxing match on, people having a good time. The 2 fights were good, I enjoyed both.

As for the prospects I liked De La Rosa in the sense that Coleman was a very good opponent and he edged him out of it, it was a decent display from both fighters.

The Guerrero fight was a good one but considering Tyrone Watson went on to fight Daniel Jacobs only to get stopped in the 1st round shows that the 2 prospects are far apart in relation to how good both of them are.

We will only see how good Guerrero is when he is faced with someone who is going to stand up and tump just as hard as he does. He seemed to be doing a lot of punching, even punching himself out towards the end but against a live opponent he would have to think about what hes doing more.

It's easy to look great against fighters who are not really trying to dominate.

Overall a good card to watch with an even better crowd...

Both De La Rosa and Coleman looked impressive, and I'm glad that Coleman is moving down to 140 because he could do some damage there. He's much too small for his style to work at Welterweight. He actually reminded me of Andre Berto except smaller, less explosive, and with less stamina and power (sounds bad, but Andre Berto is really damn good IMO. Coleman seemed like a solid fighter, and at JWW, I'd like to watch his fights). De La Rosa looked quite impressive to me, for such a young fighter. I hope he learns to work his jab more like Calzaghe, stiff and away from the body while moving his feet. If he does, he would make his fights much easier because he has a very athletic tall body, and seems to have the type of strength that might not one punch KO you, but can take the stuffing out of you if he attacks your body.

All in all it was the age of Guerrero and De La Rosa that was best. Really young and a lot of development to go.
