ShoBox: Anthony Dirrell vs. Renan St. Juste & Chris Avalos vs. Jhonatan Romero RBR

Was it as bad as Bernard Hopkins?

 

I can see him being very competitive with Froch and Ward, not with Bute, Kessler, or his bro.

 

I like Dirrell and his upside is obvious, but there's a few things I don't like about him
He's got good power, but he doesn't seem to press the action enough, but he's a good finisher who doesn't spaz out like a Timothy Bradley or Andre Berto.
Maybe more body punching and he'd improve with that.

Also his movement seems off. I hope it was just apart of the gameplan tonight because his footwork and headmovement doesn't seem that great.

He'll get better though

 

They showed the replay of the action when the butt occurred and St. Juste was complaining about the left shoulder then. Dirrell's instinctive flop to his knees was a little disappointing.

 

Seems to me like hard accurate puncher with great timing. Why wasn't that an impressive performance?

 

I think that was the gameplan. I've seen him "box" people and walk people down. I think he was a little nervous because this was a big fight for him.

 

:good he'll be fine then. I think the fact that he was fighting a southpaw also through him off also.

One more thing that worries me is I don't know how he'd do against a come forward, good chin/strong willed pressure fighter. I could see him struggling a lot vs this type of fighter

 

doesn't move much and doesn't press the action.

 

I believe both guys (dude with shoulder popping out and dude with hurt head) were really hurt. Or at least when a guy winces in boxing I give the benefit of the doubt that the wincing is due to pain.

 

His footwork isn't as dynamic as his brother's. Anthony's legs seemed really heavy and stiff tonight.

 

I'll laugh my ass off if he ends up fighting for a vacant title...because his opponent either be some guy named Noe Gonzalez or he could face the equally enigmatic Pablo Farias. Can't believe the void at the top of the WBC rankings.

The other funny thing is that should anthony fight either guy he'd probably win, which means that he'd win a title before his brother does.

 

It was only 4 rounds in a step up fight and the fight ended with Dirrell pounding the other guy on the ropes.

I tend to think the movement was a deliberate strategy -- he was countering well.

 

Dirrell got dazed from a headbutt what was he supposed to do? Dude fought cancer but he's a *****? Some people here should try sparring just one round, just to see what it's like.
