Yeah it's still far too early to hail him as the next big think OR write him off. As it stands he's treading along as he should and is definitely one to watch out for. Anything beyond that is overhype.

See my most recent post. I was also responding to Ellerbe's comments.

Maderna is pretty ordinary and it's honestly kind of disappointing that Uzcategui let him stay the distance. My world was not exactly set on fire by Bolivita's performance.

Burgos is past his best, but Haney showed some different looks than I expected and dominated a guy who even now doesn't seem that easy to dominate; if he continues to progress, he'll pass Uz and a lot of others before too long.

Meh, Uzcategui at 175 gets brutally KO'd by Beterbiev as well. Maderna is basically a career Super Middleweight that probably shouldn't have even taken the fight against Artur.

Beterbiev is the definition of a waste of career. Imagine if he had a good promoter. I know you hate Beterbiev though lol.

I disagree. If he was 22 fighting Burgos then it wouldn't be anything really. He's still a teenager not a fully grown man. I was strong at 19 but much stronger at 22 or 23. Menard now Burgos in back to back fights is good for now. He may or may not be special but lets see how the kid develops and give him a chance.

I don't hate him, I'm just a little leery because I'm afraid he might be closet extremist supporter of fanatical Chechen/Dagestani nationalist fundamentalists like most of young men from the region.. But fingers crossed, let's hope he's not.

He has wasted his career and it's a shame really. Pbc did nothing for him and his new promoter isn't doing anything for him either.

Please excuse the newby question, but what does that mean exactly? What is his function as "promoter", and how does a 19 Year old get bestowed with such a honor, LOL?

Basically, he (or, rather, his promotional company) was responsible for staging the card, publicizing it, and ensuring that the seats were filled by the time the bell rang for the main event.

A hotshot prospect with a fairly sizable social media following who happens to be in his teens can draw some attention by acting as the promoter (or, more likely, as the figurehead of the company) for a nationally televised bout. Based on the crowd I'd say he succeeded. And, given the quality of that fight card in general, I'd be Ok with seeing another card by Devin Haney promotions.

You know by ordinary prospect standards you're right but people are calling Haney future p4p #1.

Just for reference Canelo in between his 19th and 20th birthdays fought:

18-4-1 Marat Khuzeev (had still only been stopped once, by Aydin)
    21-1 Carlos Herrera
    21-2 Lanardo Tyner
    19-2 Brian Camechis
    31-1-1 Jose Miguel Cotto
    26-1 Luciano Cuello

That's a whole lot more impressive than just Menard (coming off just a single tune-up since Beltran knocked him silly a year and a half earlier) and shot Burgos.

Prime Pain Server Tyner >> Menard
2009 grizzled veteran Jose Miguel Cotto > 2018 grizzled veteran Juan Carlos Burgos

Plus some extra stocking-stuffers, most notably Cuello..

Thanks for that. I was just wondering how a 19 Year old gets a promotional company. There are Boxers twice his age that never did that. Must have some connections I guess.
