    Round 8

Rodriguez is wide with his punches but he's consistent with his pressure and power. McGirt is still just curling up in a ball on the ropes and getting walloped. His gloves are being split apart by most of the straighter punches of Rodriguez, while the looping ones curl around and bounce off the side of his skull (and a few dip into his body). McGirt throws a lame straight left trying to push his way off the ropes. Rodriguez backs off voluntarily and lets McGirt come to him slowly. McGirt jabs his way forward and lands a hard body shot. Rodriguez tries to set a trap and land a right uppercut as McGirt comes forward, but he misses. McGirt suddenly gets into his offense and lands nicely on Rodriguez but takes a counter at the same time.

    79-73 Rodriguez

    The McGirt clan is arguing!!!

    "Don't stop this fight, pop!"
"Do you have something to show me?"
    "Yes..."
    "No you don't!"
    "Don't stop this fight, pop!"
    "Look at me!
    "Don't stop this fight, pop!"

    Wow.

    Round 9

Rodriguez is tightening and shortening up his punches now, for the first minute at least. Rodriguez ducks as McGirt swipes him from off the ropes, and Rodriguez starts picking him apart with right leads and left hooks around the thumb. McGirt is looking to counter from the ropes but Mark Nelson waits for a moment to rush in and wave it off as Rodriguez just keeps slamming him.

Buddy looks incredibly relieved to have had the decision taken out of his hands.

Not impressed with anyone on tonight but still a solid night for the kickoff of the new boxing season nonetheless.

****. Noticed this Round by Round only now... and I watched the card also. I'll be in tomorrow night's Round by Round. You could almost bank on it.

Rodriguez won almost every round, except one. I felt sorry for McGirt.
