    Villanueva using his jab with good effectiveness in the 1st. Fairly tentative first still mid way through the round. Ruiz finally lands a good left uppercut to finish a 3 punch flurry. Good flurry from Villanueva. Close round, but I think Villanueva edged it.

    Ruiz is dancing around, keeping Villanueva spinning and swatting with hooks. Ruiz is pawing with his right jab in between slipping the off-balance slapped bombs of Villanueva. Suddenly a left hook connects for Villanueva and Ruiz is forced to move in and hold as a few more shots rain down. Ruiz ducks down and digs a right jab to the body. Ruiz ducks and counters, stretching his arm up overhead for right hooks in the pocket while avoiding Villanueva's heavier but slower shots.

    10-9 Villanueva, that one good sequence really cinched it since neither had much of a strong argument

    Nice action from Villinieve, I liked ruiz jr/s head movment and footwork, looks like he is starting to get villineave's timing down and settled in the pocket and started to return, but not before Villanueva was able to land some solid punches on him.

    Villanueva is building up big combos of hooks flying in from either side. He's swatting that little fly buzzing all around him. Ruiz is ducking and slipping shots but getting tagged. Villanueva is relentless. Ruiz keeps trying to duck in against Villanueva but keeps eating left and right hooks curling in toward his face. Ruiz's knees buckles every time he ducks and gets hit and he barely recovers time and again. Villanueva finally gets an accumulation knockdown. Ruiz gets up and tells Russell Mora he's OK. Villanueva jumps on him and lands some hard long straight right hands and more hooks.
