Oh man, I feel so bad for anyone who tuned into the card expecting to see JT headline (as I think was advertised, and as any sane person would assume by looking at the card lineup)

Had it been structured differently, it still would've been a shitty episode of ShoBox, but at least it would have been reasonable.

    ie:

    Crap 8-rounder, KO1
Crap 8-rounder, boring and ending in TKO8.
Taylor in a blowout main event, KO2

...all live. Not great, but **** happens. That would have been one of those "well, it could've gone either way on paper, either decent or a dud...and it turned out a dud. Oh well..."

Instead we get a live crap 8-rounder, the bombshell dropped on us that Taylor fought hours ago, some quick highlights and then an interview with Taylor (why not just show the full round and a half?!?!?! Why delay it at all?? Why is it even relegated to the undercard, when it's the only bout that was even scheduled for ten???) and then an even crappier 8-rounder as the live "main attraction". :verysad

Insulting to Taylor and his fan base. Al Haymon done ****ed up. Maybe 50 and Summers were onto something.

I don't think Jermains handlers want him to box, and rather than sacrificing him to a killer, they're trying to get him dates where he's near guaranteed not getting sufficient brain damage.

Its sad to see this go on, wonder how he is financially?

Yes. Against a slow overmatched opponent. Why is that so unbelievable?

To give ShoBox some miniscule cover, the Paraza-Farmer fight, Farmer was a short notice fill in for a different guy who supposedly should have made the fight closer. But yeah, I don't think ESPN ever aired a shittier card, hell maybe FSN or MSG aired a really crappy one that I haven't seen but this is definitely the worst one by a major network.

30 second highlight reel done hours earlier but has 35% of the total poster space:

****, why not show Dannie Williams at least? That's a fun TV fighter. Of limited use, but fun.

They had a two hour broadcast slot and aired nine ****ing rounds of action (plus the combined minute or so of moments from rounds 1 & 2 of Taylor vs. Munoz spliced together...)

    ****ing ridiculous.

Oh and for the record, Jose Pedraza vs. Allan Benitez would not have "saved" this card as the main event. It doesn't matter that Farmer got subbed in.

Pedraza himself sucks to watch. I hope never to have to do so again.

I think they were hoping those aired fights would be more compelling than what they were.

I'm actually starting to think that maybe the entire card was tape delayed and Jermain Taylor was the Arena's main event, and since ShoBox knew him and Dannie's fights were one sided beatdowns didn't buy the full rights to the card and picked the more "competitive" fights on paper?

Not a bad thought, but a couple things:

    1) Boxrec had the Taylor vs. Munoz result up before ShoBox started (which annoyed the **** out of me; I kept hoping it was a mistake until it was revealed to be the actual result halfway into ShoBox). The results for Pedraza vs. Farmer and Russ vs. Cepeda were updated live as they happened during the broadcast...presumably in real time.

    2) Bernstein said "earlier tonight, Jermain Taylor fought..." and they never mentioned anything about the 8-rounders not being live.

They had plenty of time to kill to round out the 2-hour slot. Even if Dannie and Jermain were in mismatches, so what? Show them. Even if the cost is a bit prohibitive due to Taylor's name value; it's better than scaring away fans from ever wanting to watch ShoBox again. Last night may have done that for lots of people.

    I mean, come on. :patsch

They didn't get to show the highlights for free, did they? Pony up however much extra it would have been to show the full 4 minutes of action instead of paring it down to one, so as to not totally **** off and alienate your viewership.

Does anyone remember how packed the arena/ballroom was for the two other fights? The Taylor fight was packed from what I saw of those 20 seconds of highlights. I don't think the "main" card was as packed, so either people left or Showtime rearranged the card during editing for TV purposes.

On the clip below, did Showtime show that interview during the fight? as in Live between bouts?
