    Round 8

Several jabs to the face by Vargas, and a flush right hand. Tyner is bowing his head and eking a path inside, shoulder turned up in front of his jaw as he tries to lean into Vargas and block his jabs. Low blow by Vargas, an uppercut at the belt line. Tyner takes a little time. Hooks to the body by Tyner. Jab to the face by Vargas. Backhand jab by Tyner. Clinch, and they tumble to the ground and through the bottom ropes. Jab to the body by Vargas once both are back on their feet and in the ring. Big slapping overhand right to the face by Vargas. Left hook downstairs. Tyner is crossing his arms to catch shots and not throwing much back. Just a few jabs. Flurry by Vargas stepping in, blocked.

    10-9 Vargas

    79-73 Vargas

    Round 9

Vargas hooks at the body. Clinch. Tyner works some left uppercuts while holding Vargas in the crook of his right. Vargas power-lifts him back to the ropes. Left hooks to the body. Tyner is grinning at the crowd or his people at ringside. Tyner pushes back at Vargas, not tying up but not countering either. Vargas flurries away, with shots flying in from either side and bouncing off Tyner's arms but catching an odd piece of his body here and there. Tyner keeps his earmuffs on to prevent head shots, but is getting largely out worked by Vargas' focused attack to the body. Just a few weak taps by Tyner. Right hand up top by Vargas after pushing off and backing out.

    10-9 Vargas

    89-82 Vargas

    Round 10

Tyner swings a wild overhand right coming forward, and Vargas skids out in reverse to elude him. Lots of movement by Vargas, popping left jabs and changing directions often. Tyner isn't getting close, and is barely making an effort to cut the ring off - just grinning and shrugging when Vargas lands a body shot. Left hook up top by Vargas. Tyner holds his hands low and tries to show some slick defensive moves, rolling back as Vargas throws a high-low combo and catching the body shots on his lower arms. Tyner comes forward as Vargas keeps moving and jabbing. Flush jab by Vargas, hitting the exposed mouthpiece of Tyner. A pair of big overhand rights by Tyner at the bell, not connecting with them.

    99-91 Vargas

Maybe if/when Vargas blows up, people can revisit and revise this fight and say Vargas should have lost (a la De la Hoya-Molina)

Solid performance by Vargas considering his opponent isn't one who you can look amazing against.

Zaveck clearly isn't top level, solid but not top level elite, and Vargas is being hyped and pushed through like he is on that level. I just don't see that day ever coming. Vargas is never going to be an elite fighter, especially at 147.
