ShoBox: Michael Perez vs. Fidel Maldonado Jr. & Randy Caballero vs. Manuel Roman RBR

I'm still stuck in "Bigger's Better" mode, feeling for a moment like this is the last round.

 

Round 3

Perez fixes the jab on him. Maldonado lands a left hand but eats a straight right in the process. Perez comes forward, jabbing. Several body shots dug in by Maldonado, unanswered. Maldonado holds Perez and gets whacked over the top with several mallet shots in the clinch before the ref gets in. Combo by Maldonado falling in against Perez. Step-through jab by Perez. Lunging 1-2, pulled halfway there as Perez resets and takes a step to the side. Body shots traded both ways. Perez comes swooping in with a left upper-hook, as Maldonado skips away and denies him contact. Maldonado rushes his way out of a corner behind his right jab. Perez stops in the middle of the Corona logo and catches him with the jab coming in. Cut on Maldonado ruled to be from an accidental headbutt.

Round 4

Maldonado fires through with his left hand, committing to it. Perez varies up his counters, throwing jabs into Maldonado's face and ducking to get leverage on uppercuts and hooks. They exchange and Maldonado gets in an excellent left hand. Perez begins to take over, surgically working Maldonado over with jabs and rights. Maldonado shrinks back to the ropes, mouth open. Perez is going to the body, hard uppercuts from outside. Perez keeps the jab between his eyes. Another uppercut to the diaphragm. Maldonado tries a looping left but gets nailed with a straight combo. Perez shreds Maldonado's already torn cheek with the jab, willingly shaking off Maldonado's flush counter right jabs as they lose their snap. Perez is walking Maldonado down and waiting patiently at the exterior of that right jab's capabilities. Perez is circling in close, slowly but surely, showing the jab and then coming forward with straight rights. Maldonado tries to jog back and forth on his heels and jerk off to either side to remain unpredictable.

Round 5

Maldonado hangs on the outside, sliding his rear foot back and dragging his lead to meet it. Right jabs by Maldonado to try and keep Perez out. Perez isn't pressing the attack for some reason, just circling on the outside and lobbing the occasional long uppercut to the body. Perez jabs and gets drawn into an exchange by Maldonado, caught with a right hook. Maldonado throws a slow right jab and gets hooked in the armpit by Perez's left, then ties up. Maldonado circles right, then springs back. Perez slaps him with a left hook from outside.

Very close round, due to Perez inexplicably checking out mentally.
