ShoBox: Thomas Mattice vs. Isaac Jonathan Cruz González RBR

Round 7

Mattice is jerking away from Cruz's stubby jab and doubling up on jabs, sprinkling in crosses here and there. Lots of gallivanting around by Mattice, throwing light straight punches with full extension but little snap on them. Cruz patiently marches him down and lands a left hook with 45 seconds left, stunning Mattice. Cruz pressures and starts jabbing high, spearing rights into the chest, and tagging Mattice on the jaw with left hooks. BIG line drive right by Cruz hurts Mattice again!

Another round that one guy had been winning at the halfway mark, and completely spun the other way by the bell.

Round 8

Mattice is flicking the jab and strafing a few steps in either direction before switching. Cruz struts up to him and slings big left hooks, first upstairs (causing Mattice to stumble drunkenly) and then a few hard ones downstairs. Mattice is just shelling up, legs too worn down to consistently move anymore. Nice counter 1-2 by Mattice, but he isn't discouraging Cruz from walking in. Hard lead right by Cruz and some body uppercuts in close. Mattice clinches and flips his elbows up into Cruz's face to back him out for a reset. Mattice bends his knees and plants a hard left hook on the side of Cruz. Mattice blowing hard. Cruz is attacking the ribs with big hooks and then clattering rights up top behind the head as Mattice leans in with his arms folded over his face. Mattice's nose very bloody. Mattice running.

Cruz needs a knockdown on my card if he wants to salvage better than a draw. On the Showtime commentator panel's cards, Mattice is the one that already needs a KO. ‾\_(ツ)_/‾

 

71-19 connect edge for Cruz in the last couple of rounds..

 

Round 9

Mattice is jabbing, standing in place until Cruz is nearly atop him, and then flitting backward in the air like a cicada. Cruz is slipping jabs on the way in, shoulders hunched up, slithering inward, fluidly veering side to side from the waist up. Cruz is keeping the pressure on, but not able to land as Mattice has rediscovered his wheels. Mattice only countering one and done, but that's all he needs to continue outscoring Cruz while denying him any interior real estate.
