Hernández is struggling to get inside past the jabbing & grabbing of Newman. Hernández is shuffling in & out with his left arm dangling low, shoulder loose in the socket. Hernández tries sloping his left side up to catch Newman's shots on his arm, then bash down with the right hand, but can't get the distance quite measured out as Newman is able to slip & roll, and pepper him with quick flashy shots.

Round 7

Newman is starting to showboat a little, styling on Hernández with double and triple jabs before sashaying off to his side with swagger. Hernández jerking his neck and shoulders away from the jab after venturing in too close but Newman able to zap him with a straight right anyway. Hernández's own right hand from outside it telegraphed badly, and easily avoided. Newman tying up on the inside, then pushing off and paddling the stomach. Newman swings his right arm behind his back and lifts his rear leg, totally mocking Hernández now. Hernández too gassed to punish him for it, works his way in but can only manage a limp slap on the side of the neck with his free hand before Weeks breaks them.

And he needs to discreetly chug a Red Bull on his stool if he wants to kayo anybody.

 

Fascinating. Newman is almost certainly up on the official scorecards, especially being the A-side in Vegas, but his corner (which includes former contender Bones Adams) demands that he "get out there and finish this".

He could probably get on his bike for three minutes and be assured victory. Really interesting advice, there.

 

Round 8

Hernández is getting lit up on the way in as Newman pieces together double jabs with double crosses and then ducks out beyond his reach. They come together and Hernández can only grab Newman by the back of the head, barely even throwing any punches. The few that he does are slipped and countered, Newman pelting Hernández with quick body shots and hooks thudding home below his ear. They step around each other at medium-long range and Hernández is able to skewer Newman with a couple of jabs, while taking some himself. Flurry at the bell.

What is this long tête-à-tête? Seems a bit long for "good fight man/hey you too".
