Shocking 'world' title fights

The guy Morrison picked out from the crowd.

 

That is an urban myth, but still yep, Tomashek was a shocking opponent.

 

I don't mind them having keep busy fights if they fight 4 times a year, but if they're fighting two times a year and one of them is a keep busy, then it's a joke.

 

What's the full story then? :think

 

It was known Mike Williams (Morrison's original opponent) was a 'flight risk', so Tomashek was given notice a few days before that bout, that he maybe used.

On the day of the fight Tomashek was given the late call up.

The Pudwill fight was worse.Manfreado was bad but not as bad as Pudwill.

 

Fine, pudwill was **** but the thread titles shocking world title fights and Manfredo was 1 a massive mis-match and therefore shocking particularly as that was a post lacy shut-out Calzaghe as opposed to a 2002 racking up the defenses Calzaghe (ie level of opposition shoulda been bigger eg Kessler who he fought he fought after) You agree its bad, i think it was worse than bad.

Slipandcounter normally your posts are great but Nardiello had been ko'd 6 times before Richie fought him and he werent the most awkward of southppors now come on. And to the forgettable bloke that mentioned hus carrer best win of Thuliana Malinga, sugar boy was tough but he prolonged his career over a SD win against a post-McLellan Benn who's head was out of the game by then. Nardiello getting a shot at Woodhall after being stopped multiple times in previous attempts is shocking as per thread title

 

Nardiello wasn't exactly Sweet Pea on D, but he was a decent fighter who gave you problems if you were not on your game and only lost to the top guys. lets not portray him as some bum.

Let me tell you that people before that fight were actually worried for Woodhall. Nardiello was meant to fight Richie before he pulled out, Glenn Catley stepped in on short notice and beat him. Richie was coming to the end mentally. Based on respective stages in their careers, it was a good match on paper.

To call it a 'shocking title fight' would be just wrong. This fight was more than just looking at the records would suggest.

 

Dont patronise me like i aint seen the fight slip, the fact is that you've even admitted Richie was coming to an end and still knocked him out (sure i concede after being dropped himself) They were both at the end of thier careers which assisted it being a closer call pre-fight doesnt improve Nardiello's rep.

Besides your'e focussing on that 1 fight, the 7th ko loss out of 7 werent it for Vicenzo?? Not worthy for sure you arent convincing me

 

Right next 1 im gonna throw out there- Billy Fox. Obviously most famous for being hurt by the great Jake Lamotta's jab making even throwing the fight look legit impossible for the bronx bull. Over-hyped, fed a ton of bums an got sparked in the 1st in the world title fight he 'earned' from the Lamotta debacle. Very poor fighter imo

I just remember people saying that would be a tricky fight for Woodhall, especially after what happened against Glenn. It certainly wasn't considered a walkover at the time, so we can't use a bit of revisionism in order to call it a shocker, thats all i'm saying.

Anyway, can we at least agree that there are far worse and more 'shocking' world title fights than that one?

 

Totally agree, Nardiello was a goood fighter and a great character. Only man to floor Henry Wharton.
