So it seems Mauricio wants no part of Glover Teixeira .I would never expect Shogun of all people to duck anyone. But it seems that he would rather have been cut from the UFC than face Teixeira .Then he was given Vera as a compromise after a blatant duck, at least according to Dana White. Any truth to this or is Dana talking out of his ass again? http://espn.go.com/blog/mma/post/_/id/11907/the-old-guard-the-new-guard-and-teixeira
Are you really asking if Dana White is talking out of his ass again ?? Does it really need an answer ?
Teixeira is a beast but I seriously doubt a man that has fought the likes of Jon Jones and Rampage Jackson would be scared of anyone.
I know there are two sides to every story and usually the truth lies somewhere in between. I dont believe he is scared of Teixiera or anyone for that matter. But i am curious as to why Dana would go out of his way publicly to say and make it seem otherwise? And if Shogun was offered that fight why did he turn it down and agree to face Vera instead?
Maybe he should have ducked those right hands by Hendo instead [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcYppAs6ZdI[/ame]
Shogun tells his side of the story: Mauricio Shogun Rua spoke to TATAME in Curitiba, where he is training for Brandon Vera, whom he fights with at UFC on FOX 4, and talked about the last polemics. On a honest chat, the former champion revealed why he didnt accept fighting Glover Teixeira, making his boss, Dana White, pissed off. He also analyzed his bout against Brandon Vera. They asked me to fight Glover, then I talked to my team and we decided not to fight Glover because hes a top guy but, but hes building a career in the UFC. He fought once and it was on an undercard, explains Shogun. Its not interesting for me right now. Maybe in the future If I defeated him I wouldnt reach a level of having a chance at the title. http://tatame.com/2012/06/14/Shogun...nd-if-he-really-asked-to-get-cut-from-the-UFC
He thinks Vera is title shot level... He is ducking him because he doesn't want to lose to an unknown to the mass UFC fan base. He has been sliding since 2006. I think a lot of this is due to poor diet and training so hard so young. It's sad for me to hear about this really! Lynchburg
Shogun wouldnt win anything with this fight atm if he won he beat a nobody and if he lost he lost to a nobody which isnt good either
Two things , you don't say to a highly valued member of your organisation / promotion " we will cut you if you don't fight Joe Bloggs " , and if you do , you better prepare for a stroppy answer , or to lose that asset White got his stroppy answer and was never going to cut Shogun , who's being honest ?? its certainly not Dana That said , your opening line i happen to agree completely with , at that level , you get told who your fighting and you prepare accordingly , I'm surprised at Shogun
People are aware of how highly regarded Glover is , this would of been a massive win and the fight itself is possibly a head liner The UFC know how to promote unknown fighters , and by the end of this fight Glover would of been very well known :yep
