Thats what I am getting at (it isnt the best comparison your right on that) Sokodjou wasnt given more time for his skills to mature he was very young and talented he wasnt mentally strong enough though and he paid for it.

Shogun is a brutal fighter he may not have rampage's power but that just means that instead of not knowing what hit you and going to sleep from a single shot, you will be aware of your beating as the punches in combination rain down on you. punches and kicks coming from everywhere you will be aware of your beating, and have time to **** your pants!

Rua is much more experienced, but I agree with Scurla he has lost a step since he joined UFC. The injuries have ****ed him.

-Griffin pretty dominated all three rounds and subbed him.

-A shot Coleman lasted right until the end and hot his licks in.

-Beat Machida x2. Beat him in a close fight first time out, decimated him second time round. Another long lay-off and surgery.

Not a good timeline going in with a Greco wrestler (makes Jones a very different proposition in today's game with the emphasis on Collegiate/Folk style backgrounds IMO) who has a Innovative (if still a bit sloppy) stand-up game that is hard to time, as well as an athleticism that allows him to move around quite freely on top.

Still not sure quite how good he is on his back or what kinda' shot he takes. This version of Mauricio might not be the one to show us that, and if Jones does win, I can't see anyone around or coming up that will be able to do it for years.

It sounds like fantasy but I can see him dominating 205 until he grows into a fully-fledged Heavyweight. Still, I'm hoping Shogun pulls off the win, his GnP if he does get in top position will be unlike anything Jones has ever experienced.

Scurla is right on this one....You guys should watch Shogun vs Coleman. Styles make fights....

And it seems like Shogun tends to be destabilised against greco-wrestlers...Even in their rematch...(keep in mind Coleman is way past his prime too)...Shogun wasn't in his safe zone...

What he did against Machida is a bit irrelevant since Machida's style is the total opposite , but Jones has some solid greco-type takedowns...his wrestling is a very important part of his game. Jones also knows how to submit and to strike.

Stylistically...(and i think dana is aware of it)....Jones is a nightmare for Shogun. Of course , that doesn't mean much if shogun brings his A game. But like scurla said...Shogun is not as fresh...(still young enough but had many wars under his belt).... The most glorious moments of his career happened in 2005 (when he defeated Jackson , Arona , Overeem , Rogerio in the grand prix)... But that was 6 years ago.

I'm not saying he's finished or anything..afterall , .he did stop machida (ufc's best lhw at the time). But again...styles make fights...styles make fights...never forget it.

That's why Matt Hughes could never beat Dennis Hallman...Or why Nadal always gave Federer the most difficult games of his career.

How will Shogun react as soon as Jones brutally throws him like a ragdoll with a greco-move ?...Or will he even be able to approach shogun this way ?...It's hard to tell. Since Jones is still very fresh...and since Shogun is not "shot" (even if he's not at 100% like he used several years ago)...

I think it's a toss up...a shogun victory is realistic...i'm not saying the contrary..but Jones is not a sacrifical lamb here. (as young as he is)...he's got the style that shogun hates dealing with. Of course , Shogun is a well rounded and brutal opponent...and it'll be Jones' most dangerous opponent to date. and it won't be a big deal even if he loses against Shogun....he's still young and very motivated.

One thing is for sure...this will be one of ufc's most interesting match ups since....well...since machida vs shogun.

As I said I wouldnt say he's lost a step so much as had alot of incosistancey, the Shogun we saw fight Machida was likely the best Shogun ever.

His biggest problem has I'd say been cardio, guys like Franklin get talked off as having great cardio but they also pace themselves a good deal while Shogun generally doesnt. To keep going at that pace for 15 let alone 25 mins doesnt need good cardio it needs insane cardio, not sure what he does now but like Diaz Rua used to run marathons and that kind of cardio needs time to recover after injury.

As long as the post Forrest layoff was the two sugerys actually ment that Shogun was still coming back to face Coleman after a reasonabley limated time back training. This time round he seems to be going at a more sensible pace, if I remember correctly he was back in full training by november so he'll have a good 5-6 months to get back in shape.

Randleman got knee barred because of his own over enthusiasm trying to get the TD. Granted Rua dealt with business but you cant use that fight as a barometer. Bones is an entirely different kettle of fish. With a wrestling base equivalent to Randy Couture but with the comparable strength of Mark Coleman.
The only place this fight will be interesting is with Rua from guard. But with his knee injurys i cant see him having much success when Bones is devastating from the top with elbows.

If Shogun pulls this out. Id consider it a minor miracle.

I wont even elaborate coz I have eyes.

Use them to watch Rua-Machida II then, and consider how many flush punches that Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva had landed on Machida before Rua got to him.

I'm impress with bones last night but shogun is on another level. It should be a good fight but i just think shogun will be too much for bones.

You know, I was high on Machida and I still felt he won the first fight. The problem with Machida is that his own tentativeness, safety first caught up to him because when he started getting hit, he didnt know how to react.

I give Lyoto credit though for elevating and being a big part of MMA evolution.

All I got to say is that Bader has heavy hands, arguably the heaviest in LHW. He hit Jones a couple of times and he didnt even blink. Its not going to be easy on Rua to get in, hes primarily an outside fighter and uses the thai clinch inside. How the hell is he going to do that with someone a foot taller?

The only way I see Rua winning this is a scramble and getting hold of bones knee.

Everyone goes on like Machida 'evolved MMA' but he was a negative fighter with an odd Karate-style and some BJJ skills. Hardly revolutionary, and a guy removed from his Pride best demolished him.

Now Jones appears far more revolutionary. But Shogun beat the old new guard, he could well beat the new new guard :yep

Either way, great fight, I felt hyped for it as soon as I realised what Joe Rogan was getting at. A much more intriguing match than Rashad, who will be lost in the division if Bones wins.

Oh, and Bader, not a particularly impressive striker, landed nothing significant on Jones last night. He looked very average indeed, Jones had scouted him perfectly beforehand.

I still love Machida, I think he is a fantastic fighter and will come again. The Rampage decision was pathetic, even though Lyoto was too gun-shy for the first 2 rounds he still clearly won the fight.

Anyway, Shogun will land on Bones, and we have no idea how Bones takes a shot from a vicious striker like Shogun, so to register disbelief over a possible Rua victory makes no sense to me.
