How does down playing the Machida fight prove any point? I understand why Sonnen was picked but none of those reasons give Jones extra merit when he wins. The way to sell a super fight is to get them to fight each other. GSP should have happened two years ago. Bones / Silva doesn't need selling and should happen as soon as possible as Silva is at the tale end of his carrer.
In the big picture it's not going to matter that Sonnen got an undeserved Title Fight... JJ is going to fight them all. Selling a fight is important whether you like it or not and this is where we start drawing even more comparisons between him and Anderson Silva. The two have gone from not wanting to fight each other to posturing over stipulations. Frankie Edgar talked his way into a Title Fight, but I never saw anyone bitching over that. A two time loser he was, but a character he wasn't. I'm not surprised a guy who hates Sonnen and this Title Fight is only going to reply with smileys, but this is what it is. Alexander G, Glover T... They aren't ready for the big stage and will be just another Contender stepping into the cage. If JJ were to whip one of them with ease this April it would be another sacrificial lamb in there. It wouldn't smell like Sonnen, it wouldn't sell like Sonnen, and it wouldn't pay like Sonnen. It would start to become redundant. Iron Mike has been there done that, and he didn't have any other Great fighters swimming in his waters when the smoke cleared... He had nobody as does JJ... No true #1 Contender at LHW whether you could admit it or not. Sonnen has a lot going for him and will generate bigger bucks for everyone involved. These are some of the reasons why he is next and your no name cookie cutter Contender isn't. The two I've listed aren't anything special, but at least their LHWs right? Well Anthony Pettis isn't a FW, but the same goes for him. Do you want Jose Aldo fighting a row of Contenders that you know dick about or would you rather see the marquee matchups take place? This is how the Sport grows, how fighters secure their families future and how you make big stars outta little ones. This is also the fight game and being on a Boxing website for years some of you should see the pieces moving and falling into place. Like I said, I expect nothing less from a guy who falls into Sonnen's hard sell. I wouldn't be surprised if Cormier and Weidman don't get the fights they want. If Anderson Silva immediately signs to fight GSP or JJ after the two defend their Titles. These are two live Contenders who could **** all over potential super fights.
I'm not down playing, not at all. You wanna talk about a guy's last 4 fights well he is 2-2 too. By this point JJ doesn't need any extra merit... Beating Sonnen is only going to draw even more comparisons to Anderson Silva, make some of us want that fight more. Any fight can be bigger in time so fighting Sonnen immediately after Silva is how you sell a fight. Get over it all ready. This goes for the rest of you. The fight is next month and one with Anderson Silva is on the horizon. Nobody can make GSP fight Anderson Silva.... He was out for a #ing year and running scared. From saying his body isn't ready to mentioning a catch weight. Maybe some of that is true, but I know that he isn't confident in beating Silva. GSP is waiting for obvious signs that my man has slipped. I promise you a potential matchup with Anderson Silva is now bigger and more appropriate than ever. The two kept piling up the Ws and Sonnen was dispatched in that much anticipated rematch. You gotta be a fool to think otherwise, and you can continue to be one in your next reply. Nobody is stopping you, but that's a bunch of bull #. Two years ago there was talk here and there, now it's in every other interview and presented ever so often on here.
I know who Ricardo Lamas is. He's beaten Swanson, Hioki and Koch in an amazing run and was told, to his face and on camera by the President, that he's in line for the next shot. Pettis blew his chance when he was laid on by Clay Guida. **** him.
He's next in line and that's all there is to it. Jose Aldo will probably move on to bigger and better things, Pettis won't defend the belt if he wins it. This is not unjust, it's the way it is. The UFC is a promotion and one of prizefighting. Lamas is in position for a Title Fight and nothing is going to change that. If it's not against Jose Aldo it really doesn't matter as being the Champ is the next best thing when your a Contender.
How do you know? Cormier wasnt deemed ready and was merely back up in the SFGP and won the whole tournament. Hendo was deemed to small in the Fedor & Wandy fights but kodded them both Shogun was deemed to green and inexperienced in the MWGP, but destroyed everyone Serra was deemed a gimme 1st defence against GSP an in the end they had to peel Georges off the canvas Frankie wasnt given a chance against BJ and beat him twice Randy was too old for Chuck and Tito, but won the strap These are star making performances, Chael is at the arse end of his career in the wrong weight class and as had 3 shots at gold already and failed. The game shoul not wait Robert, it dont wait dammit! Are you saying the game should wait because Chael said some funnies about Brazil a few years ago? :huh It's a manufactured cash grab and certain people feel their intelligence is being insulted that this is being promoted at all
Like I said it's not going to matter as JJ is going to fight them all... We want a fight with Anderson Silva to take place, but want him to fight this guy next. Or that guy. Whether it be Weidman or another LHW. Can't have it both ways. Alexander G is being matched appropriately, as is Glover. I do know as nobody was creaming for JJ to fight either man. It was all about the fight with Anderson Silva. If the rest of you can't see that match up falling into place it's nothing that I can fix. To be frank, there was no mention of Lamas until he won on Fox. Even then nobody was anticipating a fight with Aldo or cared enough to mention which proves that this is all a big show.
It was one thing when Sonnen was going to come in as a last minute replacement against Jones. Scheduling an event with Sonnen as a rightful challenge is a joke. Sonnen has done nothing to warrant getting a title shot. He has been fighting at 185 for years, and was knocked out in the 2nd round at 185 in his last fight. It's not like Sonnen is expected to put up a great fight against Jones. What you don't seem to get aside from Sonnen not deserving as shot, is Sonnen has very little chance of winning. Edgar was not knocked out in the 2nd round a division below, going into his fight with Aldo. Edgar was the previous lightweight champion, and many thought he should have been awarded the title in his rematch against Henderson. Edgar was a viable opponent with a chance of victory. Anthony Pettis is the last person with an official victory over the lightweight champion, and is coming off a spectacular performance at lightweight. Pettis is in a division above Aldo, and would be moving down. Pettis is seen as having a chance to defeat Aldo. Pettis was not last seen getting knocked out at 135. GSP and Anderson Silva have not lost in years. They are viable opponents for anyone they want to face. Glover, Gustafsson, and Machida have all done more than Chael to deserve a title shot, all have a better chance of winning, and are as ready as they ever will be. And guess what else they all have in common...None of them were knocked out at 185 in their last fight.
If you can't tell the differnce between a MW getting a title shot directly after a loss and Machida who also was undiserving at the time but at least a legit contender then there is no point us discussing this anymore. I never said Bones needed more merit, I said it was understandable that people are giving him less for this fight. It's a fact that Silva / GSP isn't being called for nearly as much as it once was due to the fact that now most people want to see Silva move up instead and GSP has looked sloopy in his last outing. White is clearly planning fights for Bones and Silva against contenders in thier own division so when this fight doesn't happen................ I'm sure you will come up with more mindless statements with out merit to back them up.
I do understand, but I believe that the names being thrown out there also have very little chance of winning. Around the time he was tapping Belfort, Gustafsson had a fight scheduled as did Glover T (who isn't a true #1 Contender anyway). Machida was choked unconscious by JJ and didn't want a rematch when it was presented to him. The only person more deserving than Chael Sonnen is Gustafsson, but like I said it wasn't on the table. Scheduling conflict and you can't have it both ways here. For the same reasons why Aldo is fighting Edgar and Pettis back to back is why JJ is fighting Sonnen.... To build even more interest and to sell super fights between Aldo, Bendo, JJ, and Anderson Silva. Ultimately bringing new fans to the Sport. I know through experience and I'm not going to explain it in every reply. I'm not disagreeing with what you have to say, but you outta know what is falling into place. Dana White can't make every fight possible, and you shouldn't hold it against me if JJ v Silva doesn't happen. If they can't come to terms. But, I believe the two will fight each other within the next year. There is no point in being upset over JJ v Sonnen anymore. TUF is ongoing, the fight is a month away and there is nothing stopping that. Like I said, many of you don't understand the fight game and you ought to by now.
FFS this is East Side Boxing, have we learned anything from Boxing? Aldo v Edgar, Pettis... This is how you take the Sport to the next level, this is how it's done.
Or any other top ten LHW not coming off of a loss who has a win in the division within the last seven years.
Yeah just throw any Contender in there, any will do. Half the top ten are coming off losses . Give it a rest Rob. Sit back, open your eyes and learn a thing or two about the fight game.
