Shogun vs Hendo was a clear-cut draw. Round 3 definitely not a 10-8 Hendo.

    Pot meet kettle.

Speaking of which, didn't you have Pacquiao winning the third Marquez fight? :think

Yeeeeahhhh... don't think you should be telling people what fights are easy to score, mate.

Well yes, I suppose it does. I was maybe a bit over-the-top, it seems the rules can indeed be interpreted a different way, you're right.

 Pacquiao-Marquez had many rounds which were extremely nip and tuck, extremely difficult to score. Rua vs Henderson in my opinion did not, the rounds were much clearer.

You know what else you were a bit "over-the-top" on. This ironclad prediction you made prior to the fight we're discussing.

    What a gem, huh?:lol::rofl:patsch

This was a reply to my suggestion which was.....

So, now that I'm feeding you crow you still can't even admit that your guy wasn't the better man in any regard, sans cardio, and you can't admit that he lost even though he was nearly KTFOed three or four different times and ended up looking like a reasonable facsimile of the elephant man. Stop making excuses, your hero got ****ed up.:hi:

I have no idea what the point of your post is.

I have already said that Henderson won 3 out of 5 rounds and did more damage.

And I will happily admit that Hendo is (a) more powerful at 205 and (b) a better striker at 205, than I previously gave him credit for.

I can happily admit that because I like Hendo, always have, and because it was patently obvious in the fight.

However, by the way MMA is scored, I still think 100% that this fight was a draw. I don't understand what your post is getting at with regard to scoring. This fight should have been scored a draw.

Why? Why, why, why? You have been given a list of the Unified Rules which clearly explain the criteria involved in determining a 10-8 round. Knockdowns, damage, and positional dominance all play into it. By that reasoning you can award the third a 10-8 to Hendo via a knockdown, near stoppage, AND hellacious damage. The fifth is a clear-cut example of complete and utter positional dominance and massive number of strikes landing but there was very, very little damage done even though Shogun spent 90% of the round punching from mount.

I don't know about you but I like MMA because it's a real fight and when I see two people fight in the ring or the street I generally say that the guy who nearly knocked the other one out is the winner. Shogun only hurt Hendo one time, Shogun was hurt badly numerous times. What's more impressive and really more DESERVING of a 10-8 round. One in which a guy controlled the other or one in which most other refs would have come in for a stoppage? The former, although I scored both as a 10-8 because I understand the rules and follow them more closely than the actual judges do.

Awarding a draw to a guy who got the teetotal **** beat out of him for three and a half rounds would be an absolute disgrace.

Hendo won I know it doesn`t work that way but just look in their faces after the fight and tell me Shogun won, yes he was winning the late rounds and would have finished Hendo if there were 6-10 rounds but in a 5 round fight which it was Hendo won he did much more damage and was close to a tko win at least 2times in the fight

But this isn't how MMA is scored. I actually think it should be, I agree with you, I don't think the 10-point must scoring system works in boxing or MMA, and could give you countless examples where it has failed (Bernard Hopkins vs Jermain Taylor 1 in boxing, Lyoto Machida vs Rampage Jackson in MMA are two excellent examples - where the fights may have been scored correctly via the scoring system which is in place, but still resulted in the wrong winner), but the fact is that it is the system which is used and I strongly believe the correct score for this fight was 47-47.

I have suggested an alternative scoring system for boxing and MMA numerous times on this forum, let's call it The Popkins System, which is much better, and by which Dan Henderson would have won the fight the other night.

But, in reality, they use the 10-point must, and by that system it should have been 47-47.

If my brain was the size of a bat's testicle, I would judge who won fights by how the fighters' faces looked at the end.

No, because both the third and fifth can be scored as 10-8s. The scoring criteria clearly allows for both rounds to be scored that way and it's merely your opinion and nothing more that the third shouldn't. If a fighter is nearly finished, then a 10-8 is certainly applicable. Shogun was on the verge of consciousness and Herb Dean would have pulled Hendo off. If you value damage over control and you score the fifth a 10-8, you MUST score the third a 10-8, as well.

No, because a distinction must be drawn between a beatdown which lasts 4-5 minutes and a beatdown which lasts 30secs-1min. The scoring must reflect this. The first part of the round was even, the last part of the round was won by Rua on clean, effective punches landed to the face and positional superiority.

Do you believe that ANY round where a fighter is nearly finished is automatically a 10-8? You must know there are examples to prove this wrong which can be cited.

I will look for the thread where I proposed a new scoring system. It is more in line with your outlook on scoring.

Basis of a much better scoring system:

This idea would give the true winner far more often than the 10-point must. :good

The best system is the old UFC/Pride one. Just write down on a piece of paper who you thought won the fight at the end.

No way it's a draw. To even pretend that Shogun deserved a 10-8 round is just silly. He never had Hendo in danger of being finished. Shogun was almost just as wore out as Hendo, and wasn't doing ANY damage. His punches at that stage couldn't have cracked an egg. Draping himself onto Hendo for an entire round while throwing meaningless punches of which most were avoided doesn't warrant you a 10-8 round. Especially if you are arguing that when Hendo dropped Shogun and almost finished him on the ground wasn't a 10-8 round. Hendo dominated and hurt Shogun for those first 3 rounds, and a worn out Shogun won the next two rounds over an even more worn out Henderson.

For a number of reasons, that is a terrible way to score a fight. The only real advantage that method has is that it's much easier for the Yakuza to deliver a pre-determined outcome.
