I seen it more or less as an even fight myself tbh, I have no problem with the decision but overall a draw would have been the fairest result when you look at what each man put into & did in the fight. A rematch must happen, I really think if Rua had not got rocked at the beginning of rd 1 then he would have broke Dan down for a late TKO or clear UD, Hendo buzzed him & busted him open very early in the fight & from then on it was Shogun in brawl mode... if Rua had time to ease into his rythm like he did vs Machida (1st fight) I believe he wins clear-cut. I`m going with Rua in a rematch.
This content is protected I like this ^ way of scoring, it seems fairer IMO. Also... I see the points of both sides of the argument when discussing the Rua/Hendo rds 3 & 5 situation, both could have been scored 10-8 BUT I disagree with the guys that say its ridiculous to score rd 5 as a 10-8 to Rua & not score rd 3 a 10-8 to Henderson... this isn`t tit for tat here, its ROUND BY ROUND & Shogun dominated the entire 5th rd & please don`t kid yourselves Rua did no damage & it was all about Hendo being exhausted, he tried very hard to get up but couldn`t because of Rua`s better BJJ. Also, it was primarily in rd 5 that Dan got all marked up himself... he might not have been as hurt as Rua was in rd 3 but at least Rua made a comeback offensively in that rd, Hendo was totally dominated grappling wise & offered zero comeback for almost 5 full mins... thats all I`m saying. :good
Credit where it's due, Hendo's boxing was a lot sharper than I thought it would be, he was throwing some quality combinations and landing the cleaner, better shots. Rua will need to concentrate on kicks and knees a lot more if he is to win a rematch. I think he can do it.
By a 10 point must system R1: Hendo 10-9 R2: Hendo 10-9 R3: Hendo 10-9 R4: Shogun 10-9 R5: Shogun 10-8 Score: 47-47 This is what the score should have been under the current rules IMO. But ultimately, Henderson won 3 rounds out of 5 and did more damage. But the rules as they stand are not sufficient to recognize and reflect this. We can't just make them sufficient when they aren't, they don't recognize different degrees of success in rounds well enough, but we have to stick by them just now. BUT... by my system... R1: Henderson 2 R2: Henderson 2 R3: Henderson 3 R4: Shogun 2 R5: Shogun 4 Score: Henderson 7-6 Shogun You see, this system would recognize who did more damage and won more rounds more accurately and effectively than the current 10 point must system. :good
Agreed. The guy is an ATG warrior, but he is only mortal, these fights must take something out of you. Seriously, how can anyone not love Rua? He doesn't seem to get the same affection as Hendo from the MMA community, but he is cut from exactly the same cloth. How he recovered from that shot that sent him down in round 3 I'll never know. That Hendo right-hand has crumpled so many top fighters, an already-dazed/hurt Shogun ate it and still came back throwing leather by the end of the round. It was a fighting miracle.
Yeah, I like both fighters, 2 ATG warriors, I much prefer the style & skillset of Rua & feel he is the better & more complete fighter tho, I`m not sure Hendo has the ability or even the energy to top that performance, I know from seeing plenty of both men that Rua can better his performance. Thats just my opinion.
No, the final round is not a guaranteed 10-8 for Shogun. Rua dominated the round but he couldn't finish and was hardly damaging Hendo. Now go change your avatar you sore loser.
