Shogun vs Hendo was a clear-cut draw. Round 3 definitely not a 10-8 Hendo.

I have a major problem with the 10-point must system. It doesn't work in MMA. At all.

People say Round 3 of Penn/Fitch was a 10-8, but if that's the case, what the hell do you call round 5 of Shogun/Hendo? Or worse still, what was round 1 of Edgar/Maynard II?

If you're giving Fitch a 10-8 for round 3, then Shogun definately deserves a 10-8, for positional dominance alone, but then Gray surely deserves a 10-7 considering that fight could've been justifiably stopped any number of times during that round. Then you have fights like Nejim v Downes on the under card of 137, Nejim utterly dominated in all 3 rounds, both with position and multiple submission attempts, how do you score those rounds? Based on positional dominance alone a 10-8 is justified, but given the multiple potential finishes how could you not go a 10-7 considering Fitch can sit in BJs guard or Shogun can sit in mount and be given a 10-8. It's not even on the same plane as taking someones back, keeping it and locking up multiple submission attempts across several rounds.

 

I think this is a better scoring system.

 

I like the Pride system. Yea there were some robberies, but the concept is great. The guy who won the overall fight wins, pretty simple. 10 point must doesn't really work for MMA, too many variables.

I wasn't scoring apart from the last round but it looked like 1, 2 and 3 for Hendo and 4 and 5 for Shogun with 5 being a clear 10-8.

 

Yep, sounds about right from what I seen (I`m not saying a Hendo win is wrong tho, just to be clear.)

 

10-8 scores are very hefty in mma because the fights are only 3 or 5 rounds. I only score 10-8 when someone is on the verge of being finished. Shogun was closer to being finished in round 3 than Henderson was in round 5, and I still scored round three 10-9 in Henderson's favor.

Both fighters were spent in the 5th round. Shogun got the mount, and clearly won the round. I just didn't think he was close to finishing Henderson. In fact, I kept thinking Shogun should just stand up since he was too tired to submit Henderson, and was in no way doing any serious damage from the mount. I thought Shogun had a better chance of landing something standing to end the fight than he did holding the mount until the final bell.

 

Lorretta Hunt puts a very good argument up for why it wasn't 10-8.
