Agreed.

Although, imo, Frye/Takayama, Cro Cop/Wanderlei, Wanderlei/Hunt, Cro Cop/Fedor, and Hendo/Wanderlei were more exciting to watch.

 

pride had some great events, shogun is just a well rounded monster! I have always really liked both the nog bro's too, very talented fighters.

In the history of MMA there will never be a more exciting fight than Frye vs Takayama. That was just pure violence at its glorious best.

For those that missed it it was THE glory era of MMA. Im not sure if it can ever be repeated. I doubt it very much.

 

Shogun vs Lil Nog was a great fight but there have been plenty of great fights since then showing both heated reversals and studied technique.

 

The sport is still quite young. There will be days that match or succeed said glory days.

 

I dont see it myself. MMA has evolved into its own legitimate genre. That in itseld has taken away the quality from fighters who specialised in one particularly form. And thus today we see more fighters who are average at everything rather than great at one thing.
Plus i dont think you're going to get the toughness you used to see in fighters in the early UFC's and PRIDE. Those guys were just tough as nails considering the rules or lack of...

 

I agree for the most part, I think the rules could use a tweaking similar to what k1 did but in a good way.

with some rule changes mma could be just as fun in the us as it was in pride fc- well almost.

 

Shogun's 05 GP run has got to be the greatest run of any single fighter in MMA history.
