Be honest...Who do you think is gonna win ?... I'm predicting Shogun by monumental upset. (wouldn't have been considered as an upset back in 2005 but today it is ) Yeah i know.. Machida is the huge favorite , but i don't give a **** My reasons ? I think Shogun will try his best to constantly close the distance , grab him in the clinch & will be endurant enough to win more points & take the UD. Machida's previous opponents tried to outstrike him or play his own game. Shogun will try something different....Maybe i'm dead wrong on this one...But Shogun will be back in full force (one can only hope)
I'm going with the upset. Shogun is one of my top 3 favorite fighters and if he comes prepared Machida is gonna finally have a serious fight on his hands. Especially if Shogun can bother Machida enough with his unorthadox striking, he can maybe set up takedowns and we'll have a better look at Machida's ground game. Shogun all the way. I'm with you on this.
Its hard to pick agianst Machida at this point but I kinda am tempted here. Shoguns physique looked quite different vs Liddell more like what he looked like in his Pride days when stamina wasnt a concern. Tito got the Muay Thai Plum on Machida a couple different times but Tito isnt that Thai fighter Shogun is, if Shogun can get that clinch he could very well do some damage. Im not picking just yet ill wait till that week to pick.
I'm kinda with you, a lot of guys are easily ruling out Shogun. My main conern with Shogun is his stamina. He looked sharper and in better shape in the Chuck fight but the fight only lasted 1 round. I would have liked to see him have 1 more fight before he fought for the title. Hard to pick at the moment but I think Shogun will start off well, but I see Machida taking him out/dominate him as the fight goes on. I like both guys but will probably be rooting for Shogun and hope he pulls it off.
Yeah the Liddell fight is weird because he actually fought a very high pace with Chuck and showed no signs of slowing down but it was less then a round like you mentioned. With Forrest and Coleman his stamina was almost like that of a guy who walked in off the streets it needed to have improved significantly if he wants to succeed in the Championship rounds. The 1st 2 rounds I give Shogun as great a chance as anyone to upset Machida.
On paper Machida should be the winner, I personally am routing for Shogun, but it depends which Shogun shows up, if it's the Shogun of old then it's a 50/50 fight, anything less, Loyoto takes it. The shogun Ive seen in the UFC is nothing close to what he was in pride, not even then Liddell fight. The guy is a lot slower and doesn't even come close to achieving his old pace of fighting. I think there is a good chance he was juicing when he was in pride or maybe just the knee surgery. Who knows.
If Shogun DOES win this it just murks up the picture at LHWT even more (though, from a fans perspective, I don't think that is a bad thing.) It's going to be a bit hard to think of Shogun as the Champ of the division if he wins considering he lost to forrest, who then won the title from rampage who was making only his second defense, but forrest couldnt defend it even once before losing it to rashad, who immediately lost it to machida without a successful defense. Then we would have Machida lose it w/o a defense too. If Shogun wins we need a tournament, I think.
If shogun is 100% then i give him a good chance of winning but he as to be 100% in order to have a chance against machida. Anyways my pick goes to machida. It's hard to not pick him since his been pretty much invincible since he started fighting in the ufc.
The way machida has been fighting. How can you pick against him. He gave rashad his only lost. Made Tito and chuck look like a amateur. Even if shogun comes in wit his best. I thik machida still has what it takes to win this fight.
